Go to Huangshan before your angles hurt ! Things that deter tourists are the crowds and steps of Huangshan. Avoid going there during weekends and Chinese holidays. November is a good month to visit as there are lesser people and nicer weather - no strong sun nor snow. Once you reach the sight points, it is worth it and you will forget all the pains to come up there. Take the cable car up and down and take your time as well when searching for points of interests. Xihai is a must to go as it is a new opening point and everywhere you go is like a Chinese painting and you realise how true the paintings reflect the landscape !

Westerners come to Huangshan for the 'most dangerous hiking trail in the World'. The bragging rights are awesome, but the danger is minimal. No question hanging off the side of the cliff on boards supported by metal posts is daunting but, you are secured with a harness so the real threat is in your head. The mountain is crowded and everything costs money, the bus ride up, the tram up, the tram down, the bus back, plus the ride from Xian to Huangshan. If you are a student make sure to have your ID. If you are English speaking with a smart phone also download PLECO is is fairly helpful. This is usually off most travelers' radar so you won't see many foreign faces, just the growing and excited Chinese middle class. There are food and beverage places everywhere on the mountain, so you don't need to bring your own, but you will pay a premium. The temples are beautiful and I would have rather walked up, but you must plan to stay overnight at least 1 night, with two being preferable. Stay at the base of the mountain the night before, walk up, stay on the mountain for the second night, see the sunrise, and walk down.

I've been to Huangshan and it's definitely a MUST VISIT for all during winter time. The scenaries are spectacular. Everything was great until I got scammed. It happened at the Yingu Ropeway station before making my way up to the peak of Huangshan. There's this stall located at the entrance of the cabelcar station. The lady there apparently sold two pairs of used spike shoes and she insisted on them being brand new. She snatched the money off my hands and passed the old shoe spike to me. I didn't want to make a scene so I just walked away. She isn't very honest and I definitely do not want anyone to experience what I've just been through. If you're looking for shoe spikes, just walk around the stations and you'll find stores selling new ones at cheaper price. I'd also reccommend you bringing up some instant noodles and breads if you're planning to spend a night at the peak of Huangshan for the food sold up there is very pricey. If you're plannig to hike your way up to the peak of Hungshan (Guang Ming Peak) you should get yourself a pair of spike for your shoes before boarding the cabelcar. Spikes sold at the bottom of Huangshan can be sold for as cheap as 15RMB where spikes sold up Huangshan can go up to 35RMB. Bringing a torchlight is also optional since you'll be making your way up the peak at 5:00a.m. if yo're planning to watch the sunrise. l

I've been to Huangshan twice and Im always awed by how wonderful the scenery on top of the mountain. Best sunrise and sunset I've seen so far with the sea of clouds at sunrise makes me more grateful as to how blessed we truly are with what nature has to offer. Conquering Mt. Huangshan is not for the faint-hearted. It takes a lot of strenght, stamina, endurance and bravery to be able to reach the highest peak. But the reward is truly astounding! One guy from the US even said: "This place is not real!" because climbing from one mountain to another makes you think that everything surrounding you, you only once saw in a portrait or animated film. Mt. Huangshan is truly a peace of heaven on earth.
