We went on this trip as a part of our honeymoon to the Dominican. To be honest we were probably looking forward more to the Paradise Island trip. How wrong we were. This was without doubt the best fun we had on our holiday trip-wise. Neither my wife or I had ever ridden before but we were straight up on the horses and with a little instruction from Joyce, which was funny enough, off we went. Our horses seemed to have minds of their own which added to the fun. The guides were all fantastic and we came away from the trip wanting to go on again straight away. Bring Bananas for the horses, they will love you for it. Take a camera and the guides will take as many pix as you want for you. All in all the best trip by far and its clear why its number one on this list.

We signed up for the half-day excursion and it was fantastic. They have horses for every level of rider and the people are just great! Be warned though, the horses (and the guides) love to splash through the streams so dress for adventure. Spare bananas for the horses are always appreciated.

If you ever thought about horseback riding this is the place to try it. This ranch is one of the best ones I have been too. I am an experienced rider and I was impressed with the horses and their equipment. My daughter however has not been on a horse and they matched the horse to her experience level. The guide Alex was very attentive and encouraging and towards the end of the ride she became at ease with horseback riding. We just went for a trail ride which included going through a small village, through the woods where where we stopped to take pictures of the beautiful view. Then we proceeded through the part of town that had the expensive homes. It was definitely one of the better excursions I have been on and I encourage everyone to try it. You will not be disappointed. When you do go, bring some bananas for the horses as they love them.

We booked a full day excursion via email with Joyce after reading the reviews on TripAdvisor and it lived up to every expectation. We were picked up from our resort promptly in the morning, and given an overview of the day by Angel our driver. We arrived at the ranch and Joyce (quite a character) welcomed us like family with hugs all around. We were a party of 4 and had 2 guides to ourselves. The horses seemed well matched to our experience levels - from 1st time rider to intermediate. The day went off without a hitch. A great introduction to the area, and into the mountains we went. Rest stops and photo ops were plentiful. After warming up with a few trots and gallops we stopped for a swim in a mountain lagoon which was wonderfully refreshing but stopping for lunch was one of the highlights. A locally prepared meal of rice, beans, yucca cakes, side dishes and possibly the best fried chicken I've ever had was prepared by a family of cooks. Later we were toured through the kitchen where everything had been prepared in pristine pots and pans and cooked entirely on wood fired ovens and stoves. We continued down through the mountains and ended the day galloping through the streets of the ranch's town, really feeling and sounding like cowboys or knights returning from a great adventure. We were all a bit sore a day later (to be expected if you're not a regular rider), but it was well worth it. The $70 USD/pp price tag seemed right on target for value. I was very happy to tip the ladies who had prepared lunch for us, and as with most excursions we also tipped the kitty at the ranch, as the guides, ranch staff and Joyce all deserved recognition for a job well done. Oh and if you can bring a few bananas along with you, it's quite rewarding to be able to treat your horse when you end your day.

Amazing day!! Friendly staff and real normal sized healthy horses. Well worth the money spent and Joyce is amazing. Returning in September for another visit and can't wait.

whether you are a first time rider or experienced, Joyce and the staff at Rancho Lorilar will make your horseback riding experience fun filled. You will enjoy beautiful views and the peaceful atmosphere of being in nature. They fit the horse to your experience and desired riding objective. I found the horses well behaved and responsive. Great way to get out of the hotel and have some fun!!

Once again I had the pleasure of visiting Joyce and the staff at Rancho Lorilar. During my 2 weeks stay in Playa Dorada I went up to the ranch 5-6 times. Now and then riding with a group- now and then alone with the guide Rafael. Even if I have been there many times I never get tired of the nature, paths, view etc. What's hit me each time is the good mood and the smiles of both the staff and the people we meet during our ride. I normally book my trips directly to the ranch- either by email or calling from the resort. That is the best way- and it's so easy to be picked up at the resort. If I should give the ladies some advices - put on both a bra AND a bikini( or 2 bras) - believe me , you'll have a much more comfortable trip:-) And on the other hand, it might be that you will go swimming in the river- so anywa you will need the bikini - and bring a towel. The horses seem to be used to all kind of people- skilled or not skilled- adults or kids. On one of my trips I specially got impressed by one of the guides taking care of a young, English boy named Alex- I guess he was about 5-6 years. The guide let him ride at his horse safely with the guide. Alex's sister Grace ( 10 and a half) also impressed by riding and galloping all by her own! So this ranch is for everyone- kids or adults. Hopefully I'll be back next summer.

Me and my family had a great time riding the mountains with these experienced and skilled guides. I had only been riding a horse twice before but I still found myself enjoying the ride up and down the mountains. The ride went through the jungle on the montainside, across streams going down the hills and we even had a stop by the river in an amazing environment to have a swim in it.Me, not being good with horses, hade a great time, and even the more experienced riders enjoyed the ride.If you want to see the Dominican Republic from a different perspective than through the window of a bus and also have an amazing time this is the adventure for you!//Little Joe
