We passed the sign many time driving by and finally decided to pull up the long driveway. Well as we pull up and see the sign to honk 3 times, the guy comes out yelling come on in... We walk in and are met by quite the operation, the guy is the most friendly and talkative and we try everything he has and leave with a nice bottle on banana liquor. I highly recommend checking out what he's got going on. .. I wish now I had also purchased the chili vodka.

Wow we drove up the rugged pathway through jungle type vegetation to find a wee shed surrounded by empty wine bottles..Sign says toot horn, hmm we thought..dodgy?Well out comes a guy with a huge smile dressed very "island relax"mode.Come on in he welcomes...What a surprise.Inside is the slickest operation, vodka, wines, liquores and hundreds of vanilla pods. The perfume of vanilla was intense. We spent over an hour here being happily educated into vanilla growing, distilling and tasting. What a delight Dr Goerge was.The most knowledgeable person on growing fruits etc.We bought a packet of the fattest vanilla pods I have seen and yes got them thru Customs no problem.Watch for the hand written sign on road to Muri!!Stop and call in!

We stumbled upon this after a few trips around the island. We went up the dirt road to his house a little skeptical but he was one of the friendliest, inviting locals wee met on the island. He was more than happy to talk about how he made the wine and vodka and let me try the different types. I ended up filling our bags with the limit and cant wait to go back and get some more. I am seriously considering importing some its that good. I will let people know if I get some imported.

We fully recommend going up to see Koteka at his little brewery. He not only brews some great stuff but is a wealth of knowledge on the Island and he is more than happy to spend time with you. He will happily conduct a tasting for you. We bought several bottles of his liqueurs.

We stopped in to Koteka's by accident, seeing a sign on the road we decided we had time to nip in for a quick visit. I am glad we did, we sampled the 3 liquors on offer - Banana, Coconut and Chili all of which were very tasty! We came home with some Coconut Liqour which I can't wait to enjoy over a scoop of icecream!Koteka is a lovely guy!

While riding around the island, we just about spotted the sign to Koteka's winery in Muri. Heading up the grass track we assumed we were in the right spot when we saw a sign saying' beep twice for Koteka'. We did and Koteka came out.The winery is very small on the side of Koteka's house, he brews all sorts of wine there and will happily let you taste what he has available (beware, it's pretty strong stuff). As others have mentioned, he's very chilled out and friendly, and the nice thing about his business is that he didn't seem to know he's on Trip Advisor or mentioned in the Lonely Planet (he didn't seem to know what these were). He's just busy getting on with what he likes to do.We bought a bottle of the banana wine, which i agree was a ittle more expensive than we thought, but then it's also great to support a completely local and self sustaining business. It's incredibly unique and brings a smile to our faces when we think about it. Would definitely recommend going to give him a visit.

Meeting Koteka was like catching up with an uncle you hadn't seen in a few years. We all got to try 3 different types...Banana liquer, Red wine and one with chilli...the last shot was fiery! Lol! We ended up buying a bottle of banana liquer that we look forward to opening back home and will take us back to our time in Rarotonga. There wasn't any coconut liquer but Koteka's charm and friendliness made up for it. Loved how he explained about recycling and if we drank our bottle before leaving Raro to take the bottle back so he could use it again!

A very local home winery. Great to see the process and hear stories while trying some banana wine and liquor. $35 per bottle is a bit pricey but it goes to support local business and everything is expensive here anyway!

Delicious banana liqueur and interesting information on wine and liqueur making. Worth popping in for a sample thanks

We drop by randomly, koteka is a really nice guy, not only did he give a great deal on a bottle of banana liqueur, but he also gave us half a bottle left over because it was the last bottle for tasting! If you want some rustic hospitality raro style go say hello!

Just south of Muri Beach on the inland side of the road look out for the blackboard signs. Follow the signs up to the house and toot 3 times. Koteka (the guy who makes the wine and liqueur) will come out and greet you like a long lost friend and invite you into his shed where he makes the product.Inside you get to see how the wine is made, and most importantly tase some. Koteka has a fridge with chilled tasting glasses and cool wine to taste. I tasted two banana wines, a banana liqueur and a coconut liqueur (made from bananas too!). All of them are delicious, and I am amazed at how he can make bananas into something so delicious.Other flavours are available depending on the fruit in season at the time. Koteka is very knowledgeable on all the local flora species and he told us all about banana trees, and other unrelated things that we had questions about. He also happily and enthusiastically answers any other questions you have about island culture, or just the best place to get a feed.If you decide to purchase a bottle Koteka makes it up for you and you can either wait, or come back the next day to pick it up (and taste the wines again!). I'd recommend this place as a classic example of island style ingenuity at its best!
