Borring, borring, borring. It is good looking town with some pleasant restaurants but it takes maximum 1 hour to see it all. We had 8 hours to our boat so were basically killing time by changing restaurants, sleeping on the grass etc.Additionally uruguayans screw us up on exchange rate so we paid arms and legs for joke of a pizza. It was wasted time really, in Buenos you can spend time much much better

Barrio Historico is very interesting, unique and pretty. The area is surrounded by many tall beautiful trees. Entering the main plaza historical landmarks surround the Plaza., like the old fort wall, the entrance way from the river, the lighthouse, restaurants and many art and crafts shops. The buildings are also examples of the Portuguese and Spanish architecture, definately different from each other. The river runs along the side of the Old Town. On the main street at the eadge of old town and also the side streets have many sidewalk cafes and gift shops, a lot specializing in lather goods, and not high pressure. It is a beautiful restful place to visit. in

We took the ferry from Buenos Aires to Uruguay to visit this highly rated town. We arrived to a long bad walking tours and crazy mad dogs that attacked, bikers, golf carts and anything with wheels. We walked around town to see if we were missing something, but we weren't. It's a sad town, with small museums and bad attractions.. We were counting the hours to take the ferry back to Buenos Aires - where there is so much to do and see. Wish we had seen a real review before we went.

We came for the day from buenos aires and really enjoyed exploring the houses and museums. The streets are charming with fun places to shop and eat. Be aware you need Uruguay dollars to buy the pass in town but there is a cambio right there

Very nice place, you feel the history on each building and the people try to keep it clean and save. You dont need to look back all the time or be afraid to lost your camera. Take a slow walk and enjoy, but dont try to find a place to eat to a reasonble cost. It is more expensive then the middle of Paris.Walk a bit away, and find a place where you see the local people eat, then you get better and less expensive food. There was not so much info around the city on the diferent buildings. But there are very nice and interesting guided tours. It is ward a visit.

Beautiful romantic old neighborhood where you can see and touch spanish-portuguese colonial culture around the streets. Nice restaurants around to have a nice wine and cheese meal. If in a hurry, won't take you more than an afternoon.

We day tripped over from BA. Catching the ferry is easy, and Uruguay has immigration officers at the port in BA to speed up the process. It took us only a few hours to wander the town, but it's a nice break from the BA bustle. Good restaurants and coffee shops. Sleepy hardly captures it. I'm not sure I'd want to stay here more than the one day, but it makes a great stop for the afternoon.

While visiting Buenos Aires for business, I had the chance to visit Colonia del Sacramento in Uruguay during a one-day trip from Buenos Aires.I used Buquebus (www.buquebus.com) to cross the water between Argentina and Uruguay. Buquebus has the possibility to travel several times per day with a fast ferry (1 hour) directly to Colonia. After arriving in Colonia, you will find a tourist information office opposite the ferry terminal. From that office, follow the road in left hand direction to reach the old city. For money change, there is an option inside the terminal building. (also ATM) But prices are also mentioned in US$, Brazilian Reals, Euro and Argentina Pesos. But the rate for Argentina Pesos is very bad compared to the other currencies. The old city can easily be seen in one day. There are lots of old buildings from the past. Also for eating and drinking there are a lot of options.

The old town of Colonia is like a trip back in time! The place is very quiet and peaceful and the 21st century seems quite far away. When you take the "Buquebus" Ferry from Buenos Aires Puerto Madero, it may be more economic to book the complete "Tourist Package" which includes a sandwich on the ferry and a ticket for the touristbus which takes you a bit out of the very small area of old town Colonia.

Great place, always providing good pictures. It gets very windy sometimes during day (but, of course, as an outdoor place, no problem at all) but the overall is great. Don't forget to visit the lighthouse: it's kinda cheap :) And if you get there 'til 5pm and you'll get an amazing sunset. You can even see Buenos Aires skyline across the river!

Nice place to spend a few hours. Feel yourself like travelling in time. Surprising places to see and shoot some photos you usually don't, but need to train your eyes to capture some details that may pass without being noticed.

Colonia del Sacramento is a lovely colonial town about 1,5 hours from Buenos Aires and 2 hours from Montevideo. It's easy to get there from Montevideo (bus) or Buenos Aires (ferry). The historic part of town is lovely and UNESCO world heritage. There are many shops and restaurants, so there's plenty to do. A great place for a day trip.

Surrounded on three sides by water it is hard to get lost here. Lots of interesting architecture but sadly some in really bad shape. Many small boutique stores selling all kinds of wares. As with any small seaside town anywhere in the world prices are a bit higher here. If you come by boat from Buenos Aires you can easily walk in to town. Exit the ferry building and turn left where there is also a tourism office. If taking a cab the fare is 80 pesos. Negotiate this before getting in otherwise it will be double.

Just take some walking shoes, cobblestones are tough and wander these colonial streets, fascinating!
