If you want to see a nice port with plenty of options, don't hesitate and go to the Mar del Plata port. There are a lot of restaurants and you can taste the most typical sea food and fish. Besides, there are some shops to buy souvenirs. But the most interesting thing to do is walking along the shore and see the great variety of fishing boats and the sea lions.

A very picturesque port with many old fishing boats. It is very quaint and for us that do not live close to the ocean or near ports, it is a very nice experience. The sea lions are impressive and smelly. Never got so close to one before, they don't seem to mind people. But, I did not try to get too close. You can watch the fishermen fixing their nets and getting the boats ready for the next day outing. There are a few stores to buy fresh fish and some tourist shops. I really just went to the port to take pictures.

I have never seen this many fishing boats at one place in my life. Also, I have never seen fishing boats in such a bad state before. It was interesting to see the sea lions, but the boat trip we had was not worth the time and money spent.

Great big tourist trap, but with lots of fish places for lunch time. Some choices of restaurants seemed very inviting, if you can stand the constant attacks and pitches by sales people trying to get you seated. Stick to the tourist area as we almost got robbed by a gang of churros on motorbikes on the walk down to the more industrial part of the port at 2 PM. We wanted to see the sea lions and the orange fishing boats. Watch out here and enjoy it for what it is.

Nice attraction for one of those typical unwelcoming summer days in Mar del Plata. And also great for picture-spot seekers all over the year. The port has a well known section where one can enjoy really fresh fish at reasonable prices (well this last point will depend on the restaurant chosen)Do not miss the sea wolves colony, an attraction in itself. But careful. Their smell may be too strong, especially after lunch!

This rich-in-stories point of the city, typical Italian heritage, with its little, yellow fishing boats, and full of sea lions and seagulls, make this place perfect spot for professional and amateur photographers.

anything to get tourists into spending mode, the port is pretty boring, but good for a post card image and some raba and fries, the local bus is only a buck round trip, so you can't lose

The port used to be a famous attraction in mar del plata, a must go. However after not being there for 5 years, I went again this december. The port is abandoned, full of dirt and quite dangerous. There are 3 parts to it:1) The restaurants: The restaurants are nice, not cheap at all but good for a family meal. Be aware of the power shortage. When I went there, the restaurants didn't have electricity so I became very suspicious about how they keep the food fresh...2)The port itself: VERY dirty and dangerous. Don't even think of going at night3) the sea lions: good if you've never seen one. However they should keep the place where they live clean.

Nice to see all those - 400- boats set in a row. Got to see a sealion, once in a while they appear. Prepare for the stinky seafish smell.

Gross area and trash everywhere. Plus down the pier where you can look out over the water it smells like urine-obviously it's the unofficial toilet for the fisherman who hang out down there. Could be so much more.

A few restaurants, many "tourist", plus a few local restaurants a block away. We lucked out and found an excellent family one, specializing in seafood, with good food, huge portions and a nice, local feel.

In those red and yellow wooden little ships, brave Marplatense fishermen, most of them of Italian descent, defy every day the unpredictable sea. The huge statue of the Savior at the end of the Southern Pier (Escollera Sur) testifies for their faith. An important colony of sea lions, located inside the Port, provides individuals which can be seen near the boats and in the docks, not afraid of people. Good seafood in the restaurants nearby, and lots of souvenir shops.

Again a place for fish restaurants of general mediocrity. A bit overpriced and service is average. A lot of restaurants do not take credit cards as a lot of the customers who go there do not have them.

It's a place where all travelers should go and visit. Some great restaurants and some not.

This was a good suprise in my trip to Mar del Plata! The place is very beautiful, full of ships from all over the world, with also a cementery of ships... In sunset, people go there to fish... The waves shocks on the rocks making a beautiful spectacle. And the best is the colony of sea-lions, mainly males, that are fightin to eache other and making that strong sounds every moment. The small beach is a good option to see the sunset (but not to swim). And you will still have a great panoramic view of the city of Mar del Plata. PS.: go in the sunset!
