The mud pods are also know as pseudo volcanoes due their looks. More like a small hillock with a crater.

very interesting to see the bubbling mud in the middle of winter along with the hot steam shooting out the bore holes. tour guide at saga tours was great and very knowledgeable. This was part of a tour that I would recommend if you want to see a lot of the area attractions in a relaxed mood.

I have mixed emotions about mud pots. We had seen them in Yellowstone so we were a little disappointed as this area was small. But if you have never see mud pots definitely see these. It was also neat to know that Iceland had mud pots like Yellowstone in the the US. We also saw the mud pots when it was dark. The area had these rocks with steam coming out that I have never seen before so that was interesting also

this is an amazing although smelly (sulphur) place, you soon get used to the smell, there are mud pots everywhere you look, bubbling away, you are able to wander round at your leisure. worth a visit

I literally felt like I was on the moon when visiting here. Definitely not to be missed! We stopped here as part of a Lake Myvatn day tour with Saga Tours.

Great spot to experience Iceland's geothermal wonders. It does smell, but worth the trip. Be careful, the crust is very thin in spots.

It's amazing to see the geothermal dynamics of Iceland! The sulphur smell is strong, but it's the best place to go to see the blurbing of the steam!

We visited here after a trip to myvatn lake, was a bit pongy, but u got used to it, its almost like a different planet, history and how they use geothermal energy is really interesting, worth the visit.

this was a great stop off the ring road and really cool to see. they smell horrible but worth stopping to see.

You will pass by this on the ring road as you drive toward Myvatn and Akureyri from the Husavik area. When in the parking lot, when facing the hill, hike up and down the hill from the right side. It will be much easier and less riskier. The left side is extremely steep with loose gravel. I slipped and nearly broke my DSLR on a fall walking up the left side.At the top, you will have beautiful views of the valley you just drove through, the lava fields, the highlands, and the Myvatn area.

You will pass this on your journey and get out for a quick look. It's more like a lunar landscape with the bizarre combination of the mud and thermal pools sending steam fronds out. Don't venture out across to the pools as the crust is thin and the water would kill you in seconds if you went in. The place is isolated - no medical facilities anywhere - be careful.

Must visit that place and like everything in iceland you find it just aside the road you driving. It's really kitchen of hell

don't expect it as anything compared to ehat yoy can see in Nee Zealand. Not as colorful, not as big, can't spend the whole morning and nobody wants to do a picnic there.so i guess it is just a stop before you go on to other places nearby.

This Icelandic thermal area looks like a Martian landscape. It is not grand and overwhelming but nice in its own right. It proves a stark contrast between the surrounding area and is unexpected when come upon. There are several nice viewpoints on wooden platforms. Folks are told not to venture into the thermal area but they stupidly do so anyway. The crust can be thin with VERY hot water just below. If you break though you can be well done in a flash!!! Don't know how many folks have been burned here, but Yellowstone has several EVERY year, There are no local facilities, not even medical for the stupid unwary.
