Well.. I love this spot to see the bird. and also you can do camping there.. with water and toilet facility. Well.. you don't need telscop lens to take photos of birds.. they are just walking or sitting in front of you..I actually pet some of them.. you can take nice photos of birds with your cell phone.. I love this place , but driving to here is a task.. the road to here were not paved, but still good.. worth the drive with beautiful views all the way to there.. I love the wildness.. It's not necessary to see birds, even the drive is very pleasant.. why not..

Definitely one of the high points of our trip. The cliffs were incredible, but they can be dangerous. There are no guardrails, and you are expected to stay away from the edge. The best time to see the puffins is early morning or at night. They seem to be elsewhere in the day time. The light house is also gorgeous. The roads are treacherous, so be careful, but it you go slow and steady, it can be an incredible drive. We made it up in a tiny shoebox car just fine, but a road shoulder is non-existent. We camped on the beach, I highly recommend it.

I went with Grayline on this excursion, pick up is 6am and return to hotel at midnight, a long day. You drive for 2 hours to the port where you pick up Ferry ride for 3 hours to Lagrabjarg. It is a really pretty island, didn't get to see any puffins they were in South Iceland. The sheer beauty of the cliffs is most amazing. The guide was great, professional and helpful. Very accommodating and told great stories of Iceland. He told me a lot the US Navy and military bases and all the civilians rescues our military did for Iceland. My brother was stationed there in the 70's so it was cool to hear it an see some of the old bases that were converted to colleges. It is a long trip, bring snacks you can eat on the Ferry. Not much to pick from on the island. It was good way to really take in the country landscape from land and boat.

We decided to go there coming from Dynadi falls - and were happy about our rented Jeep. The roads out there are not just gravel roads - they are IMHO ready to be rated F. Narrow, dangerous and crowded by motorhomes. We were surprised over the marvelous water color and beaches on the way - but the crowd at the cliffs was even late in the evening impressive - I do not want to imagine how it is during the day and high season!! Beginning of August only a couple of Puffins are left - but they act completely undisturbed by the visitors. Except the visitor: The bigger their tele-lens, the more rude their fight for a better picture... strange people.

We came to Latrabjarg on the 17th of August and it was already too late to see the puffins who had flown away by that time. They usually migrate to the South, so we could still catch them in Reykjavik on a boat tour, but it's not the same experience.

Fantastic sightings of Puffins. They are very unperturbed by humans and everyone respected them and didn't try and go too close. Camera enthusiasts everywhere and Nikon and Canon won't go broke with what we saw!

The cliffs of Látrabjarg promontory are an amazing view just himself; besides, after a 1 hour trial, we had the chance to see few puffin's nest.Puffins are really funny and nice birds! Tip: we suggest to go on the cliff during the evening (8/9 p.m.) much chance to see the birds.

Birder's Paradise - just drive carefully...Puffins galore! Go late in the evening (10pm-ish is ideal) for the best chances to see puffins on land during June and July. Otherwise, puffins are often out at sea, but they tend to return to their burrowed-in nests during the night. 'Night' of course is a loose concept when it doesn't really get dark... but that is also a good thing in that you won't have to drive that road after dark!Please be mindful of the edge of the cliffs - they can be undercut and give way. There may be a spray-painted white 'caution' line in the grass, but don't depend on that as a guarantee of safety. These puffins are completely not fussed by humans being nearby, and can be seen on the cliff edge even near the car park!Getting out to Latrabjarg Cliffs is an adventure all its own - it's a narrow, winding gravel road with few guard rails. There is little margin for error for inattentive driving. That said - it is also a beautiful drive - just take it slow, so you can avoid potholes and admire the views! A 2WD vehicle will do just fine. The lack of fences was actually refreshing, in a weird way...

After arriving at our guest house and having some dinner we drove out to the cliffs to see the puffins. It was around 9:00 pm and we had good weather. The road is every bit as horrible as you might have heard and it seemed a longer drive than we had anticipated. If I had not read the reviews and the warnings I could have easily given up. That being said, when we arrived there were a handful of tourists on the cliffs and hundreds of puffins right up on the edge in plain site. Definitely worth the travel there. Even if you're on a budget trip rent a car for a day and GO THERE! It's one of the most beautiful places I've seen in Iceland and (unlike other attractions) is free of charge. The puffins are adorable and friendly and you can spend there hours just looking at them and taking photos. An absolute must!

The bird cliffs afford both enthusiasts and those interested in birds (puffins in particular) the closest view you are likely to get. Arriving either early in the morning or in the evening will ensure that you see them very close up either before they take off for the day's fishing or as they settle down to roost for the night.

We liked the thousands of birds, we disliked the people who felt the need to take virtually stick their enormous camera lenses up birds beaks. Why do you buy the lenses? Give wildlife some respect and space.

About an hours drive out of town, extensively on dirt roads, this is one of the most spectacular and enjoyable places to visit in Iceland. One can get close to a wide variety of birds, but be careful of the cliffs. Puffins galore and a photographers paradise.

Loved the closeness to the puffins but to get to the cliffs it is about and hour and a half on dirt roads climbing up and down mountains with hairpin curves. Would I do it again YES!!! Loved the experience.

Access to this area is via Road #612. This is a gravel road that is/was totally covered with potholes when we were there 17 July 2014. We had a small Ford Focus wagon, which was classed as "C" class by the Thrifty rental agency. Perhaps in less rugged conditions (if they do in fact fill/grade the potholes), this would be an acceptable vehicle. However, under the conditions we experienced, I'd caution folks to be prepared to drive exceptionally slow (we were doing about 12 mph much of the way and still had to replace a tire due to impact with a pothole),or upgrade to a larger vehicle. 4X4 is not necessary, but maybe something a bit more robust than our Ford Focus.Once you get passed the accessiblity issue, the view and experience is great! I'd give 5 stars, if we hadn't had the tire problem!! Perhaps the difficult drive helps keep the crowds down and less impact on the cliffs.The puffins are very calm and readily approachable; however, caution is recommended about getting too close to the edge as the cliffs can fracture and it is a very long, rocky trip down!! Having said that, it's hard not to "creep out there" to get that selfie with a puffin!!! Other seabirds abound the area as well, including razorbills, guillemots, gulls, etc.Well worth the experience if you are in that part of Iceland.
