This beautiful caste offers wide-range of cultural and gastronomical programmes all over the year, for example folk festivals in June, wine festival in September with a lot of concerts and traditional hungarian folk activites. The castle was renovated in 2014, you can take part in different activities inside of it, and there are also knight tournaments, fire juggler shows, horse-programmes which make you feel like a time travel. It is situated in the feet of Bükk mountains, Miskolc city centre and Lillafüred are about in 25 mins from the castle, and there is a very cool restaurant not far from it, called Pizza Terasz which is an italian restaurant. Traditional restaurans are nearby, as well.

During our trip to North-Hungary we visited the Castle of Diosgyor too.The history of the Castle dates back to the 12th Century but it has been almost fully destroyed during the centuries. Restoration works have been carried out for about 60 years and were completed by 2014.Due to the careful, professional and accurate reconstruction behind the castle walls there is a real medieval atmosphere. Halls and rooms are well built and decorated, furnished with authentic medieval furniture. We really enjoyed the view to Diosgyor and the surrounding hills from the north-west tower as well as the waxwork exhibition.I firmly recommend the visit of this castle.

This was our first trip to the castle after being in Miskolc at least 10 times over the years. It was very nice to see the castle under repair, the center courtyard was closed because the crane was making lifts to the center, but there was still plenty to see & do. We will return in '15 and hope to see the entire castle. thanks

It is possible to feel atmosphere of the Middle Ages. The castle has restored on high level. The guids are professionals and can speak in different languages. It is great panorama from the towers.

A wonderfully preserved medieval trip back in time- Miskolc holds several treasures that are Priceless. Seeing the castle restored and the activities held on its grounds is a thrill for all. From toddler to grandparent, there are fantastic things to discover within these castle walls. The castle would be an incredible setting for a movie!

I have first visited the castle in 2010 during a school trip and I can still remember climbing all over the ruins and just enjoying the sight and scenery. I remember I have been told they usually set up a stage and they have bands playing inside the courtyard.Imagine my surprise when i walked through the main gates of the castle just to see that this ruin I had in my memory was completely gone and I faced a two storey castle. What an amazing work that they did on this castle.I really enjoyed the fact that they tried to make your experience as authentic as possible. When we visited they had musicians in the castle who played traditional instruments. The castle was originally built in the 13th century. I think it's a bit too modern in places and that even through the restoration has given quite a charm to the castle it's a bit misplaced in time hence my 4 star review.I enjoyed my visit and this castle is definitely a must do if you are in Miskolc as you can easily get there by the number 1 tram.Kids will definitely enjoy it and there is brilliant wheelchair access to all parts of the castle too.

The castle strikes an impressive image from its exterior on the approach, and is preceded by a beautiful, well kept street lined with quaint Panzios and Horse-chestnut trees. We checked out the 'dungeon' type tunnel to the left of the entrance before going into the main castle (and climbing all those steps!) and had a look and a read of the information accompanying the wax figure exhibit. I particularly liked the display of the Hungarian saint who travelled to Ireland in order to repent for his murder of 20 innocents.Anyway, the inside of the castle really hit me like a brick in terms of its appearance. As soon as you enter through the main gate, you will be amazed at just how immense it all is! I understand that recently this castle has actually been a ruin, and that they have restored and refurbished every detail to make it what it is today. Do not expect the most faithful restoration to its original state, as you're not going to see many of the 'original' fixtures and fittings here, however there are plenty of activities and sights to more than make up for this. For instance, there was a live artist performing in costume a medieval instrument which I could not identify, however it was very entertaining. There were also potters, carpenters and metal forgers giving interactive demos. The castle has been refurbished with a mind to accessibility, which means that those in wheelchairs or with difficulty walking will be able to get into the castle by means of a manned escalator/stairlift contraption, and get to the upper level of the castle using the elevator inside. There is a cafe serving fresh food, as well as a Panzio outside selling fresh pretzels and lángos if you prefer. If you like heights and good views, then challenge yourself to climb the stairs up the tower to look out over the surrounding area, and look down on the inside of the castle. It's quite a sight. In summary, this is great visit which is quite easily accessible via a 20 minute tram ride from the city centre, and a short 5 minute walk. I would definitely recommend coming here if you've a few hours to spare in Miskolc!

I had a certain doubt..but the reconstruction was well-done ! A real gem...and a gorgeous Knights Arena has been in construction. I disagree with one of the visitors, there is MUCH to do in the area, Lillafüred is nearby and the Castle Bath will be open again in a couple of months...

The castle is located in the urban environment, not really the castle what you imagine in your dreams, though it's fine to visit with chilldren, they will surely love it.

It is definitely a really cool castle but not a must go. The castle is very well maintained and there are numerous recreations of medieval events there, along with a restaurant. Unfortunately it is a bit of a pain to get there from Budapest and there is nothing much to do around the area besides the castle. Still though it is a really cool castle which is well looked after.

Currently closed due to reconstruction works. But soon reopened. Rebuilt in the fall of other parts will be ...! There are people who prefer the rebuilt version. We have retained the semi-collapsed state like his. Nearby you can park your car. TOLL the parking lot!

We decided to give our hire car a rest and instead walked the 4 miles out of town to the castle.A very pleasant walk, although if you preferred, the trams run right there too.Although the Castle is,regretably, more ruin than Castle, there`s still enough of it left to make the trip worthwhile. There are lovely views down the valley from the top. There was a place where you could get a try of Medieval weapons and another area where you could try archery or swordfighting. We got a souvenier coin made in the treasury.Across from the main yard,a stage was set up where two guys in medieval costumes were giving an explanation of each weapon and a demonstration of the techniques used to master them.Although we can`t understand Hugarian,we enjoyed the amount of effort the guys were putting in.Undoubtedly worth a visit.

The castle is truly a gem of Diosgyor. It tells so much of the Hungarian history. The views from the top of the castle are breath taking. The castle is close to my heart and recommend it for everyone!

The castle is being restored and is a mix of original stone and some well matched concrete. On Fridays and weekends they have a horse show with old costumes (but we were there during the week). There is a guided tour of a panoptikum (waxwork historical scenes) - not too exciting but interesting to find that each scene had a board with a description in English as well as Hungarian. Inside the castle, renovations were ongoing but there were exhibits of armour in one tower (again with English descriptions), and it was possible to walk up a stair case through displays of old kitchen utensils to the top of one of the other towers. Great views all around of the leafy green suburbs of Miskolc. The minting exhibition was closed. A pleasant place to visit even if there was not that much to see and the panoptikum is a bit dated. Would recommend it for anyone who enjoys medieval history/castles and open views. There is a swimming pool park just next door (didn't try it) if the weather is hot.

Built (to be more precise, rebuilt) in 14 century, the castle is a place worth visiting when you are in the Miskolc region. You can admire old walls of the castle, and also visit the exhibition of a small museum with a number of medieval arms and armor. When we visited the castle, we found only a few visitors inside, so if you like the relaxing atmosphere, the fresh air, the view of mountains, you'll enjoy the visit.
