The small town of Melfi (Basilicata Region) offers visitors an authentic Italian experience...no crowds of visitors or travelers...simply how Italians live life daily. Castelo de Melfi is amazing. The views are panoramic as you walk up to the castle. Once inside, one can look out of the windows and see additional views of the town that are amazing and great photo opportunities. Also, there is a wonderful museum with fascinating artifacts located inside the castle. Castelo de Melfi has been restored beautifully...I was previously in Melfi back in 1987 and the castle was under construction...this is definitely worth a visit! Be sure to walk around the town and explore the park where locals gather in the evening. Men play bocci and there is a playground for kids and benches to sit on. The gelato is amazing and the cathedral in the square is worth a visit.

we had a great time here but the weather was terrible, so we never really got see much. The rain was pelting down and the kids were unhappy, other than that, i suspect it would be magic.

Known as Holy Roman Emperor Frederick II’s castle (one of about 8 he had built in South Italy), where he issued his ‘Constitutions’ (laws of criminal and civil procedure we would call them today, and substantive law affecting fiefs, church and municipal life in detail), it was in fact already in existence in the 11th century. He expanded it. As is the wont of castellans, it is proudly on a hill denominating the skyline and can be seen clearly even from Rapolla, some 10 Ks away. The staff are a credit to the town. They refused to take any entrance money from us since the electricity was out due to a storm the night before. A senior female member showed us the entire castle, over a few hours, even opening a room to show us a centuries old sarcophagus excavated nearby. The views of the town from the windows are inspiring. The archaeological displays are very impressive. Highly recommended.

Doesn't look like much from the outside, but well worth the visit. The entrance is cheap and the items exhibited are impressive, diverse and well displayed. Don't miss out, you'll learn a lot :)

This is a small, unremarkable castle with lovely views, cheap admission fees (3 Euro?, kids free) and a surprising display of artifacts from the castle's excavation. Plan one hour to see the whole thing. Worth doing.

We had a wonderful visit to the castle. We hired a local guide, Michelangelo Levita (can be hired through hotel or tourist bureau) who gave us a great overview of the museum. The castle is worth a visit.

Il castello é affascinante ed é possibile visitarlo autonomamente, ma la mostra al suo interno merita di essere visitata. Con i pochi euro del biglietto di possono ammirare pezzi unici di un'antica storia che ha affascinato anche i miei due bambini!

Bisogna proprio visitarlo con una guida, reperti storici e bello da vedere. Ci si arriva con la macchina oppure a piedi, particolare il cortile e la vista.

Ogni anno andiamo a Melfi per la sagra della Varola ed è sempre un piacere passeggiare per le caratteristiche viuzze del paese, sovrastati dal castello, sede di iniziative di anno in anno sempre più belle e tipiche. Il panorama è bellissimo; consiglio di osservare il castello di sera dal campanile della chiesta nella piazza centrale. E' fantastico!

Una fuga nel passato, fascino di chi ha vissuto prima di noi. Il castello è tenuto bene, oggetti conservati con cura. Il biglietto di un prezzo simbolico. Sicuramente da visitare se vi trovate in zona.

Ho visitato Melfi molte volte , il castello è ben tenuto e devo dire tra i più carini che ho visitato. Ne vale la pena. Io lo consiglio!

Il castello sovrasta il paese di Melfi con la sua maestosa struttura.Contiene una grossa raccolta di reperti degli scavi archeologici delle zone limitrofe ed é molto interessante soprattutto per i bambini.

O castelo de Melfi hoje é um museo. A parte interna foi totalmente reformada e não mantém as características originais, mas é muito bonito. Tem muita coisa pra se ver. Muitos objetos de guerra, utensílios antigos... Vale a pena conhecer

Bellissimo il castello e la parata dei falconieri mi son trovato benissimo, anche visitando la chiesa di Melfi. Bella la parata con vestiti dell'epoca e anche varie attrazioni.

Museo ricco di corredi funebri con ampie sale vuote e un percorso mal segnalato, guide inesistenti, si potrebbe valorizzare meglio....
