When relatives visit the French Riviera, I always take them to this village because it Is not as crowded as " St Paul de Vence " and more authentic in my opinion.It has a special atmosphere and I cannot explain why, all that I know is that it belongs to what I call " Medevial village unspoilt " list . Number one star being : Bussana Vecchia , Italy.

This Village is not visited may be as much as Saint-Paul de Vence, but is as beautiful and charming, as expected. It is worth the trip, not only for the Village but as well for the landscape that surrounds it. If you would like to visit a Village that is very old, this is the one, reason for being called "Medieval Walled Village". As an additional point of interest, this village is the center point for Violettes, having the" La Bastide aux Violettes", which is a must!. Tourrettes sur Loup a village of Arts and Violettes.

Round every twist and turn there are lovely pictures- with a great temptation to take many photographs. In October it was delightfully quiet and peaceful. There is a huge range of artisans working in this village, with some unique products- many based on violets. A really beautiful Provencal town.

One of the most beautiful medieval villages in Côte d'Azure. Very quiet, less overcrowded, many shops to buy souvenirs and nice walk though narrow streets.

Just pretty and everywhere you look you can take a nice photo. You must have a violet ice-cream their specialty, really good!

If you love those hilltop villages you absolutely love this one. This is a little larger that some of the others and there are plenty of places to shop and eat around here.We had a great lunch here at a local restaurant and had crepes with all local ingredients and local wine.Then you have to get the gelato made with roses and violets. Walk around the village for a ton of picture opportunities and great views of the surrounding area.

We visited this lovely medeival village on our day trip around French Riviera with Viator. Highly recommed to visit the nice village, climb the narrow cobble stone walkways. LOVELY.

Although there are plenty of souvenir shops inside this walled village, you won't get the feeling that it is a tourist trap! There are many people on the streets or in front of their hones that live there, and the artists are all from the area. A bit off the beaten path, but well worth a visit.

Just a 15 minute bus ride from Vence will drop you off at the edge of this beautiful hilltop village. It has been in my memory since 2005 when I stumbled upon it. I was determinded to return there this year when staying in Nice. Take bus 400 from Nice, through St. Paul de Vence to Vence. From there you can catch the 510 bus to Tourette sur Loup for the most amazing experience. View the village from the top of the road and it will take your breath away. Walk leisurely down to the village and simply meander. The old stoned homes and streets are adorned with flower boxes. Artisans abound there working away in their shops. They are happy to have you browse and enjoy their treasures even if you don't buy. Have lunch on an open patio and enoy the company of fellow travellers. This village is not overcome by tourists as it is a little more difficult to reach....but when you do you are in for the best day spent in Provence. Be sure to stop atTom's and have a delicious violet gelato. Tourette is the town of violets. I want to return there again for sure. I think secretly I may have lived there in another life time.

This is a gem of a village, which manages to be pretty, witty and full of charm while retaining a genuine "village" feel, with genuine local working people living side by side with tourists and ex-pats without being overwhelmed by them. Don't tell anybody - lets keep it our secret destination !!!

This medieval village is lovely!! It is NOT half as touristy as most of the other hilltop villages in the south of France. It is old and beautifully kept and yes there stairs.....it is medieval. They did have have buggies or strollers back then. There are great artisans there that have stunning art pieces including pottery, wood work, painting, jewellery, to name a few. There are some souvenir shops that sell ciolettepeoducts etc nut I love that! We also has the chance to taste violence ice cream at Toms. Loved it! Daughter hated it! The alleys and small walkways are gorgeous! Really cannot say enough about it. Stunning views too. Hardly anyone else there but locals when we went And I was walking with a cane due to knee surgery. Hard work and painful but so worth it!!!!! I imagine with the crowds in Summer it may not be so fun.

The architecture and views are nice, but we made the mistake of entering the walled village with a baby stroller. Every other alley had steps, and others were blocked by road repair works.The atmosphere was totally artificial, much like other exploited locations like Mont Saint Michel. There is no locals or genuine street life at all, just souvenir shops and galleries lined side by side.

Just as good as St Paul de Vence, but no crowds! Nice little market on Wednesday mornings, pastry shops & rests.

An absolutely charming medieval walled village close to Vence and St. Paul de Vence. A must see for lovers of Provence, as it is off the beaten track and away from tourist hoards. A great way to spend the day for those in the area of Antibes, Cannes or Grasse. Charming cobbled streets, little cafes, eateries, boutiques and patisserie line this delightful village, known for its cultivation of violets. A charming little marketing is held each Wednesday selling local produce and goods. breathtaking views of the Loup river outside the medieval walls.

The small medieval village situated on a rocky buttress ,overhanging precipices is quite calm and less populated with art and craft cultured people exhibiting their skills in small shops for purchase to the visitors. We had been to Nice during August 2013 and we intend to visit hilly villages nearby and the tour was arranged for 5hrs by car by French Riviera services at Nice for 60 Euros per person to tour Saint Paul de Vence, Tourrette Sur Loup, Gourdon and Grasse and return to Nice. We hand a nice trip covering the beautiful hilly ranges of French Riviera and the old villages of art, musicians, painters, writers and poets, A great lovely experience. The old architects and the narrow lanes and the houses sideby exhibits the art and poetic nature. The violet flowers all around are a grand show of colours.
