The Museum has a fantastic collection of historical artifacts with well written descriptions of the time period and meaning of the pieces. The museums architecture gives the exhibits an interesting layout and provides a sense of seclusion that was very peaceful. I recommend having quite a bit of free time to explore!

This museum does a great job of highlighting Ireland's history in the Prehistoric, Iron, and Middle Ages, as well as the viking era and more! Several unique artifacts are on display and by viewing the artifacts as well as how certain artifacts have changed over the years, such as tools and jewelry, you really get a better appreciation of history. It was also very interesting to read about the role of bogs and water in preservation.

This was so near our hotel. A good morning viewing the different exhibitions and listening in to the curator's chats to school groups about the paintings. Rounded off with coffee and cake and the statutory trip to the gift shop!

The bog bodies here are worthy of a visit alone! The history here is amazing and worthy of a couple hours (especially since its free!) Closed on Mondays though.

Interesting exhibiton with really old items. Captivating history about Dublin and the battle of Clontarf in 1014. Free entrance as well! You're a fool if you don't stop by this when in Dublin :-)

We were glad to have visited this museum before travelling on to other places in Ireland. Helped us better understand the sites we visited, from Neolithic to Medieval time periods. Showcases items brought from these sites for broader audiences and special care. The building itself is interesting - with carved doors, decorative ceiling trusses and mosaic floors. Good gift shop. Friendly staff.

The museum is free, although a more than reasonable 5 euro donation is requested. Once inside, there is plenty of interest to see, starting with prehistoric Ireland and working up to the middle ages. There is a Treasure room and an Egyptian room and there are special exhibitions, such as the one about the Battle of Clontarf that was being set up when we were there. Items are well displayed and there are lots of easy to read informative panels in English and Irish. Many of the exhibits have been retrieved from Irish bogs and the feature on bog people (many of whom met a violent end) was particularly fascinating. The museum is well worth a visit.

This museum has something for everyone. The gold hordes found the latest book discovered in the bog, and the longboat carved from a single log-well worth the time to see. Also has a great cafeteria for your afternoon tea or more.

The bog men close up was really something to see. The jewelry from the Bronze Age, the gold, lots of neat things to see especially if you are of Irish heritage.
