This church stands out from the other 40 or something churches in the city. It's red bricks are simply gorgeous and the interior is breathtaking. If you don't like churches....this is the one to visit !!!

Saint Anne is a patron of grandmothers, and there could not be a better name for these "happiest and unhappiest creatures", as Nathan Trauberg once called them - church itself looks small and forever young like a beautiful and naive granddaughter, and every grandmother would like to pray for her.Beware of the little horny devils, that for some reason serve as the doorknobs of the entrance gates. Many legends are connected with St.Anne's church (1499), f.e. that Napoleon wanted to take her "on his palm" to Paris, though historians say that he arranged stables in the church, as he used to do everywhere - strange hyppomaniac. In fact St.Anne isn't so small, especially when You look on all the pilasters and towers and intertwingings of red, reddish, carmin etc. bricks, that make her look like knitted (around 100 different bricks types were used in constructing. There is an interesting connection with the St.Francis and Bernardin, built 25 years later - the latter stands at the little angle besides St.Anne's and has a courtyard that uses one of it's walls with stain-glasses.

This church is in stark contrast to most of the other churches. Architecturally from the outside it is worth seeing.

a grand architecture. there are stories about Napoleon's interest in this marvel which made him ink an image of this church on his hand

This is a must see. Napoleon saw this Gothic architectural work and said that if he would be able he would take this beauty on the palm and bring it to Paris. By the way, inside it is not as ornate as some of the other churches in Vilnius. If you already have come to the Church of St. Anne, visit also the Bernardine church. It is also worth attention. Cross the river and go to Užupis. The most authentic old Vilnius district, which is very loved by artists.

There is a legend that the architect who build this church had made an agreement with devil, cause no human could build such building. And the cost of such agreement was the life of the architect beloved one. She died in the church walls and the bricks turned into red because of her blood. Definitely go inside and light a candle.

St. Anne's Church – is an amazing and one of the most famous buildings in Vilnius. This masterpiece of Gothic architecture was build in 15th-16th century, but its architect is unknown so far. It has always attracted people's glances, and eventually was shrouded in legends and myths. Perhaps the most common and most often remembered is the myth about the French emperor Napoleon - supposedly he was in Vilnius during the war with Russia in 1812. Expressive towers, countless arches, hundreds of articles, neat metal gates, and many other embellishments impressed and fascinated him so much that he said, " This is the church I would carry on my palms to Paris! "Over five centuries the church has remained almost unchanged: elegant and contoured. The reason of its charm - 33 different shapes of bricks used for construction. You must see it when in Vilnius!

My favourite church in Vilnius. It's a functioning church, so there's no museum inside. Free of charge, and you can get inside in the working hours. And the best view on it - from across the street. Also, there's a beautiful legend behind its creation. People say that one old architect got an order to build a very beautiful church. But the problem was that that old guy had no ideas of a perfect church. There came another young architect who loved the daughter of that old guy, and inspired by his love he designed this gorgeous church. Finally, the girl's father envied the young guy's talent so much that he pushed him down from the top floor, and the young guy tragically died.

It is unique and nice - one should definitely not miss this church. Its exterior is very unique - I've never seen something quite like it. Next to it there is another church built in the same fashion.

This small church is a must for Vilnius visitor. It is a masterpiece from the Gothic period. Popular legend has it that Napoleon Bonaparte, who was fascinated by the beauty of the church, wanted to take it back to Paris in the palm of his hand :)

This has to be one of the most beautiful church facades we have ever seen. It really is a must when visiting Vilinius Lithina. This is one of the best attractions in the old part of Vilinius. It's old style appearence is amazing. Well worth a visit.
