If you are in Malta and decide to spend some time in Valletta then make this place one of your must do's. The entrance fee is 10 Euros each and in all fairness it is off the main part of Valletta but there are signposts but strangely didn't appear on my guide map. You are first shown a short film about malta's role in the second world war that was filmed at the time and helps bring the war rooms to life. After the film you are given a guided tour but a member of staff. The gentleman who showed us around was brilliant and so engaging. I did not get his name, which I am gutted about, but he was so engaging and even though their was a lot of facts and figures he still held your interest. The rooms are set out in the as they would have been at the time with maps and charts that were actually in use at the time and was rediscovered when the rooms were reopened after NATO had stopped using it. The rooms go back through time brilliantly and while they still have rooms that they are working on don't let that put you off. I can't speak highly enough of this place, but for me, the member of staff who showed us round was the star of the show. He was so full of facts and figures and information you could tell he enjoyed giving the tours and was a labour of love for him. Please please please if you are interested in Malta's role in the war especially the role they played in the invasion of Sicily then find time to visit this place, you will not be disappointed

I got chills walking through the bunker complex. The rooms are set up in many cases just as they were 70 years ago; giant maps with markers for enemy fighters, original communications equipment that you can still touch/feel, etc. We walked through ourselves, but if possible I'd recommend a guide as the experience will be so much better. Nice little gift shop too, with a couple of specific books on the war in the Med that you might not otherwise find.

Dear bobsoundsgreat, thank you for the review of your visit to the Lascaris War Rooms, we have attempted to get a re-opening date for the National War Museum at Fort St Elmo from Heritage Malta as we would like to provide visitors with this information when we are asked, particularly because of the number of disappointed visitors who tell us about the museum being closed and lack of information. We are please that you felt our guide (Tony) was "full of interesting information and gave a real sense of what the island experienced between 1941<43". Thank you again for taking the time and trouble to post your review,

Dear almajosgan,We were sorry to read your review of the Lascaris War Rooms - and the fact that you were unable to visit the site which you were so looking forward to. I would like to point out that the Lascaris War rooms were a Secret establishment during WW2, so consequently they were situated in a location that was deliberately secluded. Nor was wheelchair or limited mobility access considered at the time, and you will appreciate that we are not able to make extensive alterations to Heritage Sites due to planning restrictions. I would like to advise you that the War rooms are open 7 days a week from Sunday to Monday from 10am with the exception of public holidays and feast days which are listed on our website. Unfortunately some signage around Valletta has been altered (not by us) during the extensive renovation of the Valletta fortifications and we have asked Valletta local council to correct the signage and have in some instances got our own maintenance staff to correct missing or damaged signs. I have personally checked the signage from Battery Street, The Overflow Bus Park and Central Bank of Malta Annexe which are the three most commonly used routes and found all the signage in order. We do have plans in hand to open the NATO tunnels and access to the Counter Guard during this coming year however these pose similar issues in terms of access for visitors with limited mobility.

Dear Nicki97,Thank you for the review of your visit to the Lascaris War Rooms. We do try and inform visitors who come to the rooms via the steps down from Battery Street that there is an easier exit out to the Bus Station/Central Bank of Malta Annexe.
