Our friends who'd been up here before drove us out to the Tortilla Flats "dollar bill covered" restaurant and gift shop. Busy place, good food and fun service. The road up from Apache Junction blacktop and very scenic, not too bad but caution if you want to continue on the next 20 miles to Roosevelt dam is a narrow curvy dirt road, best in 4WD pickup or SUV (you WILL need a car wash and don't try it in bad weather or dark).

Another beautiful Lake in Arizona. Only a short distance from Tortilla Flats you come across the first lake on the Apache Tail. The road is twisty so you go slowly until you come across this Oasis in the desert. There are a number of good hiking trails en route. However, for me the peace and tranquility make this a must see place.

Driving along the two lane road up to Tortilla Flat is somewhat harrowing, but absolutely worth the time. The place where the pavement stops is Tortilla Flat. While it is just a gift shop, restaurant, and a museum, it is quite fun! We had beautiful day and were able to take numerous scenic pictures.

Visited here after going to Tortilla Flats. This lake just forms in the middle of the desert roads it seems like!We stopped here as a final stop on the Apachw trail to go on the river cruise. The lake has some nice wildlife to look at.

Drove down a very windy road from Apache Junction. Only 15 miles, but 8 of those miles are basically 15mph switchback kinda roads. Population of 6. Old western town from the 1800's that has a restaurant & gift shop & museum. Great views, campground down the hill. Busy season is coming up for them. My husband was there 37 years ago and said the chili and tortilla is the same! Worth the drive.

this lake can be got to from driving by canyon lake, through toritilla flats. but be warned the fish creek hill route is a bit spooky . the curvy road is not for those faint in heart. the lake is deep, lots of fish, has camping areas, and the road comes out near Roosevelt lake. the easier way to go to this lake.

I was there in a Sunday to have lunch with my friends. This place is awesome and makes you spend a lot of time just looking at this wonderful nature.

After a road trip of multiple switch backs through beautiful saguaro country you arrive at Tortilla Flats. It is like going back in history over a 100 years to the watering hole for travelers working on the Roosevelt Dam. The side walks are made wood, the bar stools are topped with a riding saddles, the live western music inviting and the food is good too. You may want to try the killer chili and definitely sample the cactus ice cream.

I recently went camping at one of the campgrounds run by the forest service (not the resort, the only facilities here are a boat launch, pit toilets, and a few water spigots) right on Apache Lake. The setting was really beautiful and on a weekday in the spring the place was nice and quiet. By Easter weekend brought crowds that filled almost the entire campground, and a fair amount of noise in the evenings, but the campground is spread out along the lake so the long beach areas still didn't feel too crowded. We had to keep our dogs on leashes, but were able to take them swimming in the lake. The nice thing about this campground is that it's located off of a winding, bumpy, dirt road which keeps the place feeling very isolated (no cell phone service!). A lot of visitors stop at various scenic and historic spots along the way but don't continue onward to this remote campground. Be sure to bring plenty of ice and food because it'll take you at least 30 minutes to get anywhere from the campground.

Wasn't expecting much as we were late for lunch and what a great surprise when we were served a top grade hamburger & sandwiches, perfect fries & cold slaw with a very good ice tea. Who would have guessed that this caliber of food would be available at a resort restaurant. I am already looking forward to fishing trip and another visit for lunch.

If you love to boat, fish or ski this is a beautiful lake! Good bass fishing! The drive up from Phoenix is an historical road that originally had mule trains carrying materials used to build Roosevelt Dam.

We didn't make it right down to the lake but the views and scenery around from the dirt highway are amazing!

Took a trip to Apache Lake and had a blast! Views are amazing. Saw some Roadrunners! Ate some great food!

The road between Apache Junction and Tortilla Flat is in terrible condition for motorcycles. If you want to see this beautiful road and scenery in Arizona, watch it through car windows. This road has lots and lots of buckled pavement and is getting worse every year! Maybe if tourism drops they will consider repairing it.

A beautiful spot and a must see when in the area. the Charm of the old west is here first hand, from the school house to the Saddle bar.
