Excellent music - wonderful and entertaining conducter. So glad we attended. The Schuster Auditorium is first rate!

This is the perfect way to start your new Years festivities... wonderful orchestra, great dancers from the Dayton Ballet, impressive baritone soloist.. and in incomparable, clever and witty conductor Neal Gittelman, who makes the evening festive, with unexpected highlights, a champagne toast at intermission and all the glory of the Schuster Center. It is becoming more and more the place to be on NYE in Dayton for all ages- from young millennials to sophisticated couples, families and seniors.

in this age of noise throughout our culture this orchestra is a true respite. If you enjoy pops or classical music this is the place for you. the Shuster is amazing. Highly recommended.

We love the pops series every year - love the rock and roll - they tend to ad the unbelievelby good Canadian musicians who have voices to match every singer you know, to do the voals on these rocka nd roll performances, so there is not only great music but great vocals. The Shuster is an acoustical wonder on its own. The first time we went, years ago, for "50 years of rock & roll" we got last minute tickets way up in the upper levels of this huge hall....the sound was so good ---- while we may buy floor seats for stage shows, I have to say that the higher in the Shuster, the better the acoustics for pure enjoyment, as the music reverberates through your body - amaing. this is one instance where "cheap seats" an far better than the expensive ones - plus, you can see everything and everyone on stage at all times....seated on the floor, all you see is whoever's in front. This orchestra is just wonderful, I highly recommend it. If you are not into classical music, just choose another show. the pops series ( rock) is a great way to get people into the symphony - hearing "other" types of music, like rock, played live by 100 musicians is awesome.

A great way to spend the evening relaxing and listening to the dayton philharmonic orchestra at the Shuster center. The Shuster center is new and the sound is awesome.

The Dayton Philharmonic Orchestra is a high quality orchestra that compares favorable with orchestras from much larger cities such as Cincinnati, Cleveland, Chicago, St. Louis, etc. Under the leadership of Neal Gittelman who has been the conductor for 18 years, this orchestra has achieved a quality in performance that is truly amazing. The Schuster Center is one of the finest auditoriums in the nation. Two years ago the Dayton Philharmonic joined with the Dayton Opera and the Dayton Ballet to form the Dayton Performing Alliance Association, a unique concept. These organizations often provide performances combining their talents for ballets and operas with the live orchestra. The Dayton Philharmonic Orchestra has probably the most extensive music education programs for children by visiting schools in the region and providing musical programs at the Schuster that are geared to appeal to younger audiences. If you get an opportunity to attend a concert performance, you, too, will be amazed at this wonderful orchestra!

We love the DPO!! They are so versatile....we have heard them do the typical classics, movie themes, pop music.....the list goes on and on! We love when the schedule comes out each year, so that we can eagerly plan our schedule around theirs!! Bravo DPO!!

I grew up with the arts in Chicago, where the symphony was a central part of my lifestyle. The performing artists in Dayton are world-class. I have yet to be disappointed. Neil Gittelman is superb! The music is always uplifting. We had season tickets last year and plan on having them again this year.

This orchestra is just lovely. They really put their all into their performances and I enjoy seeing them coupled with another beautiful art form such as opera or ballet. If you haven't seen the DPO, you should absolutely see them one day soon!!

I am not a music critic by any means, but this orchestra performs their hearts out onstage. And one reason would seem to be artistic director and conductor, Neal Gittleman. He leads them well and entertains the audience at the same time - a rather unique talent. For instance... at the recent performance of Super Pops, Billboard HIts of the 60s, Mr G would hold up a bottle of tequila during the playing of Tequila (by the Champs) to cue the audience to shout "Tequila!" It was a fun side to the same fellow who the week before brought out more serious tones of Jessica Hung playing Mozart. I am among the Dayton residents who are pleased that maestro G has chosen to make his home here - and that so many professional musicians are willing to be part of the Dayton Philharmonic when they surely must teach full time to make a living. Thanks to everyone who makes the Dayton Philharmonic a reality that lets us actually go to the the theater and experience music the way it was meant to be performed. If you live in or near Dayton Ohio, please make plans to attend a performance. It is a great value and will give you an evening of enjoyment you will long remember.

I never liked orchestra before my fiance surprised me with tickets to the DPO. Now I can't get enough. We keep adding new series every year. The variety of shows are great the Neil is always a delight! :) Even if you don't think you will like it, give it a shot. It is very entertaining!

This is an excellent orchestra and a Dayton fixture for more years than I can remember. Their home is the Schuster Centerwith its phenomenal acoustics.

For a city the size of Dayton, the arts are truly outstanding. One of the standouts is the Philharmonic, an evening concert is simply a great experience.
  • MysteryAct
They have different series to chose from, so everyone can find something they like. The music is always top notch. Some series have lectures beforehand to help you understand and know the piece of music.

Neal Gittleman is truly a treasure. He's a top notch conductor and he is so creative, clever (and comical!). We applaud all of the "integrated" programming (accompanying movies, including speakers/actors to dramatize pieces). Their educational programs are amazing; the volunteers are amazing. Oh, and the musicians are amazing. Thank you, DPO!
