This park is difficult to navigate for anyone with balance or mobillity issues and one must cross the bridge to see anything. There is a gift shop/information center but it was closed when we visited on a September week day. The surroundings are beautiful in the fall.

We visited this site & really enjoyed it. The story is amazing. Devil's Gulch has trails to walk, walk across where Jesse jumped, and 2 other bridges. You can appreciate the gulch & it's beauty. It's full of history & legend & beauty of the gulch & stream & falls. It's as quick as you want it to be. We did the trails & read the literature. There are not marked trails, but you can figure it out. Look at the formations & use your imagination about the legend! We had fun.

The road gate was closed, possibly because of winter, but I went through on foot about half a mile to the site. It was a nice walk on dirt road. There are stories about it, of which elsewhere says is questionable. But just take it for an interesting formation and I always like a foot bridge. After crossing, I went down incline to the bottom to look up and would have liked to explore more. It is pleasant and wooded area. If there were several people, it could get crowded. Probably a quick stop. The buildings weren't open, not even the bathroom, but it was winter, which I encountered quite a lot of closures.

Legend has it that Jesse James jumped this chasm on horseback. Surrounded by agriculture fields this is a truly unexpected wonder.Take the time to visit this location and enjoy nature.

Historic site, but water low and water fall not flowing. Hard to imaging Jesse James horse jumping this gulch. Visitor center was closed and no maps available.

Dunno why they show a picture of the Corn Palace. This is one of those little out of the way historical spots where it seems a little corny to stop. Once you get there, it's really pretty cool. A horse really jumped over that? Wow. Worth the extra few minutes if you're checking out Palisades, Split Rock, Pipestone, or Blue Mounds anyway.

Pretty little gulch on Split Rock River. Jesse James jumped the gulch escaping the posse from a Minnesota bank robbery. Some short trails which are a bit steep and rocky. Information sheet with info on the story available in little gift store Good to do with Jesse James pontoon boat tour

The attraction was free and there are some nice places to hike, which have nice views of the water and the quartzite formations. The attendant at the visitor center was friendly. The disadvantage is the tiny, difficult to read map provided and how poorly marked the trails are. The are little off-shoots along the trails everywhere, and it's hard to figure out where the actual trail is. (We actually ended up at a nearby campground & park by accident!) You will also want to watch your small children very carefully, as there are dropoffs very near to the trail.

We stopped here when we needed to stretch our legs. It was worth the stop. The story of Jesse James jump was fascinating (although it turned my stomach to see the man referred to as a hero). And the trail was nice and made for a good hike.

This area has many sudden drop-offs, with no signage. I had taken my family, including a 6 and 8 year old, and only discovered this by nearly walking off the edge myself. Just be careful, and stay on the paths.

Its pretty cool. Not the best place ever, but they have done a really good job with what they have. You can have a whole afternoon of fun just looking around and exploring the place.

If you're interested in the Wild West, Devil's Gulch is worth a stop to see where Jesse James (maybe) jumped the gulch.

Ledgend has it that Jesse James jumped a horse across the gulch to escape a posse. I know he did travel back to Missouri though this area as I know of a farm place that helped him.

What a great piece of history to go see! Walk over the metal bridge to get a real idea of the infamous jump! Grab a map from the gift shop if you want to do some hiking. Gift shop (very small) only takes cash. The sight itself is free. :)
