I've lived in North Carolina for years, and the Blue Ridge Parkway is one of my favorite places to visit. If you are traveling between Boone and Asheville, its a beautiful route to take and there are plenty of hiking trails and overlooks along the way for some nice rest stops. In winter, some parts of the parkway will be closed to cars, but you can park your car at the barrier and walk along the actual parkway. If you take your dog, make sure you bring along a leash - recently I watched the park ranger stop people for having dogs off their leashes.

So. This is legitimately one of the grandest views you will see on any road. Ancient sloping mountains as far as you can see are even more unfathomably beautiful in the spring, summer, and fall, when the trees bloom, thrive, and then explode into the fiery colors of fall, their one last hoorah of the year. The roads are winding, so don't forget to tell your more delicate passengers to take some anti-motion sickness pills to avoid mid-viewing explosions that don't have anything to do with leaves. There are a few places to stop and take pictures, one of which is a perfect little inn and restaurant that will be reviewed in the future.

The Parkway is awesome. Can't beat the scenery of the mountains and trees. Spring and Fall are great times to go. Plan accordingly so you don't miss some of the things to do along the way. Pack a picnic and blanket because there are some nice spots to stop. Awesome picture opportunities.

Love the drive on the Blue Ridge Parkway! The pretty colorful leaves are a sight to see and the waterfalls are magnificent.

This is a gorgeous little drive. There are tons of overlooks to stop and check out the views. Places to take mini hikes and find little creeks and such. Great way to get away from the rat race.

This was our first trip to Asheville and we had heard so much obviously about the hikes along the Blue Ridge Parkway. This did not disappoint. We had amazing summer-like weather in late October and we were able to bring out dog on the hikes with us as well. We also decided to drive the entire length of the BRP into Virginia for our drive back to Pennsylvania. Of course this took double the time it would have taken us normally but I have to say it was worth it! The views were incredible. Much better than the boring I95 "scenery".

Drove this picturesque highway on our way back from Florida, with a detour to the Inn on the Biltmore Estate. Such a relief from the boredom of the other roads we travelled. The mountains were gorgeous despite the fog and the curves were fun and kept me awake!

We were a little early in some areas for leaves colors. The drive is nice if you don't mind the slow speed! The scenery is over the top. At least do some!

Loved driving the Blue Ridge Parkway. We took our time and stopped at some of the scenic stops and loved every moment.

The BRP is an old time divided parkway that takes you through the mountains in a very serine way. About four miles from Asheville, the Handicrafts center has a wide selection of local artists' work. Wood, textile, glass, ceramic, jewelry, etc.
