Beautiful historic location. We fish at the boat launch in the susquehanna occasionally. Great for walking and if you watch their calendar of events there is always something going on.

We visited on a day of bad weather, so we skipped the park and toured the mansion. Our tour guide was well informed and pleasant. The mansion is perched on a bluff overlooking the Susquehanna. The view is breathtakingly beautiful! History lovers will adore this place.

We are glad you had a good visit to Fort Hunter Park and thank you for bringing your experience with the dog to our attention. Dogs are definitly allowed and welcomed at Fort Hunter Park and I am sorry that you had a negative experience with the Security Guard. We were unaware that a "no dog" policy was being enforced and have addressed the situation. If you stop by in the coming years, we welcome Fido! Thanks again for your positive review.

My brother and sister in-law were up for Thanksgiving and I thought a tour of the Fort Hunter Mansion would be a nice side visit. The weather was not that nice but the inside of the mansion was very comfortable. We watched a brief movie about the estate and were then greeted by Susan Skelly, who would be our tour guide. She did an excellent presentation and pointed out many things of interest. She made sure we received a listing of the upcoming events for the month of December. We plan to go back for some of them. There is a small fee for the guided tour. If you are in he area you can not go wrong in seeing Fort Hunter!

The tour was very in depth and interesting. The view from the mansion is also fantastic, and the tour guides were very personable and kind, as well as informed. I would recommend this to anyone.

Joan gave my wife and me a wonderful tour of the mansion. She was very knowledgeable and answered all of our questions. If you enjoy learning about local history Fort Hunter is a great place to visit. For more information about Fort Hunter visit their website. Then go and check it out.

If you're looking for a relaxing day, plan on spending it at the park! Close to the river and plenty of shade along with tables to picnic at.

A great old mansion with a lovely manager, Molly. She was warm and inviting and gave us an entertaining and informative tour. We were a little concerned when the front door was locked, so do ring the bell. You won't be sorry. The views from the upstairs rooms is spectacular...I want to live there! Don't expect the Biltmore House or Hearst Castle, but this is worth a visit if you are touring the area.

My wife and I really enjoyed the tour of the gorgeous mansion. Our young tour guide was extremely knowledgeable, enthusiastic, and patient. Afterward we toured about half of the outdoor grounds, and will go back again.

We often walk the grounds of the Fort Hunter Mansion and the Centennial Barn. Usually we walk the area on the side where the barn, covered bridge and a few other historic buildings are located. Posters tell of the history of the area and we enjoy the nature found on the grounds especially the wetland area. Play areas, picnic tables and restrooms are available on both sides of the road. On our recent visit we walked the grounds around the Mansion. Staff of the State Museum are doing an archeological dig behind the mansion. Posters tell of some of the discoveries if staff is not on duty. There are paths that lead down to the Susquehanna River where one can get a nice look at the historic Rockville Bridge and possibly watch the trains crossing. Check the Dauphin County Parks web site to learn of the activities that are scheduled. There is no fee for the grounds but tours of the mansion have a fee and events may have fees.

Staff over there are extremely nice. The park(right in front of the mansion) is very peaceful right near the river and you can enjoy shades under the trees. Inside the mansion, a lady who gives tour, explained every litle thing that you could possibly have a question for. Tour was in fact more interesting than those huge museums in big cities. The tour lasted an hour and half. The tour lady also told me, they swap original furnitures and other displays season to season, which makes me to visit again in the future.Though, didn't buy anything from the gift shop, things were nicely priced. It was also interesting to see the state was working on the archeological discovery behind the mansion. I also seen people doing barbecue at the park. Make sure to check event calendar for the mansion before you visit. again, so much history in the little mansion.

Stopped by to see the park. Very peaceful and tranquil. Great house and outbuildings. Fantastic views of the river and stone railroad bridge. So much history about the family that lived here and social issues with slavery and war. A local must stop when in the area. The archeological dig looks to be very interesting.

I didn't even come close to exploring the whole thing but there was some nice art, history, and views. I will definitely check it out again next time I am there. It was very peaceful.

We were just a bit disappointed here because the screen door to the mansion and tour stays locked until time for a tour. Inside is also the gift shop we would have loved to peruse while waiting. Because an earlier group took extra time, we were not able to stay for the tour. But, an archaeological dig taking place on the grounds behind the mansion in its second year was extremely interesting and staff very informative about their finds.

I had never heard of Fort Hunter until I saw it listed on Trip Advisor. Since my husband and I were going to be in the Harrisburg area, we decided to stop and tour the mansion. Our tour guide, Carl, was very knowledgeable. The house and grounds are beautiful and contain so much history from the 1700s up to the 1950s when it was set up as a place of historical importance. You really get a sense of what it was like to live there. Most of the furnishings are original to the previous owners which is rare. A very interesting experience.
