This beach is always our favorite spot when in town to head to. We were here for sun set on December 31, 2014. While it was cold we could enjoy the show from the warmth of our car.

We came for the day. I was a bit apprehensive as I'm from the left coast and had visions of dirty water, etc. Needn't have worried as it was beautiful and clean with nice facilities.

We have been coming here for years with three families in the summers. We all appreciate the beautiful new bath facilities! The boat launch is phenomenal--large and not too crowded. The water is so beautiful. Love the location.

As the title of this review states, this is an exceptional beach. The facilities are also well maintained! Can't wait to go back, stake out my piece if beach, and relax.

The day we visited this beach it started to rain, but we enjoyed the views of Lake Michigan anyways. Later in the day it cleared up and was very nice.

This was really nice and clean. Stopped in for a bit on my way through. The whole area was clean. The water looked nice. Playground and picnic areas. Lighthouse. Nice stop

Very nice park with lots of things to do. Playground area, grilling, fishing, swimming. Clean with great views. Really enjoyed it.

This beach is very well maintained. The restrooms were very clean and while my youngest son and I sat on the beach and played in the sand my husband and oldest son fished off the pier that was there. Highly recommend this beach loved it!!!

We liked where we stayed. We enjoyed the Nathan Green Art Exhibit and The Shrek Musical, at The Ramsdell Theatre, The Indian Pow Wow in Oneckima, shopping in Manistee, The restored Vogue Theatre. Much to do.

First Street Beach is a great beach for the entire family! Big slides and swings for the kids, volleyball, a couple piers to walk, and nice sand! We even came back to the same beach in the evening to watch the sunset! Don't use the navigation/directions on this site. Just search 'Douglas Park' and your nav or google maps will take you right to it.

Just put in a new little bathhouse and concession stand. Handicap accessible, wonderful "squeaky" sand, nestled amidst small dunes gives a truly "up North" feel; although it's a pretty big beach area. Play area in the sand (big swings, slide) giant harbor jetty to explore, volleyball on the sand (and other sports across the street). Also just on the other side of the street are lots of picnic tables and pavilion for family/ friends to gather! No dogs allowed (but there is a small "dog park" right there too). Lots of boating traffic to watch going in and out of the harbor (into the Manistee River which runs right through downtown) and you might even see a huge freighter visiting!

Loved the view, the parking lots could have been a little clearer, but with the snow drifting I completely understand how difficult that would be to maintain! Recommend to just stop in for all traveler's, great place to take a rest stop and stretch out while soaking in a great view, and even snapping a few pictures!

This is a clean, quiet beach well worth a visit, especially with children. We had dinner in Manistee during an overnight stay and ended up playing at the beach at sunset. The two huge slides in the sand were incredibly fun. The beach has all the facilities you need with none of the hassle of some of the busier beaches in Michigan. We will definitely return.

This is a nice area for photos without a doubt. You dont even have to be a beach bum to really enjoy this area. The river channel inlet from Lake Michigan has a fantastic little river walk that you can follow all the way into downtown Manistee (about a mile and a half) and once there, you can dine with nice views of the river, riverwalk, and charter boats. Sometimes freighters enter the river channel as well. There is an annual festival at this location each year around the 4th of July and we have attended it 2-3 times and had a real nice time. If you are staying at Orchard Beach State Park, this is a good option to use for swimming if you cannot navigate the somewhat steep stairs at the park....which also has beautiful views of Lake Michigan. Though the locals may take this area for granted, it is a great place to visit if you are a tourist! As always, be safe and enjoy your travels!J.

Everything you need at 1st Street Beach! Brand new changing rooms/bathrooms plus foot/body showers for rinsing off sand. Snack bar is brand new, as well. Also close-by is pier, lighthouse and fishing/boating area. Near fishing/boating area is brand new fish-cleaning station......lighted at night. From 1st Street Beach, one can walk along what is called "River Walk" all the way into downtown Manistee. No dogs are allowed on 1st Street Beach or River Walk. River Walk is popular with walkers and joggers alike.....nice view of Manistee River and boats coming and going.
