Saw the sign on the Highway and decided to explore the area. The museum is in this small town where during the time of Columbia was turned into a metropolis. This museum pays homeage to the six lives that were lost that morning. It gives the history of the space shuttles along with the story of the crews on each one. A film is presented to document the happenings after the shuttle crashed. Such a beautiful tribute to a crew. A little know museum that everyone should visit.

My mom and I decided to take a daytrip to Center to see all the beautiful spring foliage. The wisteria was gorgeous this year so we decided to go through Hemphill. She had heard of the NASA museum so we stoped to see it. It was great. We all have memories of Columbia crashing but this put faces to all the astronauts and makes you look deeper at what has become part of our history. The displays were exceptionally done and the debris on display and personal item belonging to the astronauts and their families made it a must see! I was very impressed and I am looking forward to visiting again with my husband.

We stopped here this past weekend while we were exploring East Texas. It was a great museum. I love the history of the Columbia and seeing the pictures from space. We were the only ones there and was able to explore/read in peace. Enjoyed watching the video of how the citizens of Hemphill came together to help out. There is an area that contains information and personal affects of each of the Columbia astronauts. This was a well done museum. It only cost $5 and it was well worth it.

We visited the museum on a weekend trip through East Texas. Looking at the outside of the building one would not expect a lot. Once inside the museum I was overwhelmed with all of the information and artifacts. The museum takes one from the beginning to the end of the NASA shuttle program to include the disaster of the Columbia. The wife of one of the astronaut's that perished during entrance into the earth atmosphere has dedicated the museum in honor of those on the Columbia. The majority of the Columbia exploded over East Texas where significant pieces had been found and housed in this museum. Overall, this museum was one of the most powerful tool telling of the event which happened on February 1, 2003

I'm former Military so I really enjoy this type of exhibit! I, along with so many others, also have a memory of the day of the event and what I was doing at the time that the shuttle "Columbia" disintegrated over Texas. So much of the search and recovery effort was based in Hemphill, TX, and many of the local citizens participated in the search and recovery efforts and feeding and housing many of the outside participants that flooded the area. Among the exhibits are some personal items of the Astronauts that were recovered during the search. Photography is allowed, just no use of a flash. A very moving exhibit that should be visited to pay tribute to not only the Astronauts that perished, but the two search and recovery participants that lost their life.
