We camped at this park for three nights while traveling across Texas in our travel trailer. The rangers and staff are all very friendly and helpful. The camp sites are roomy with lots of trees, privacy and trails nearby. A lot of wildlife roam the area and the campground is not far from the river. Rest rooms and showers are extremely clean and easily accessible to anywhere from the campground since the campground is small compared to other locations. The park is well maintained and definately worth a visit. We would definately visit this location again when passing through the area.

Very small park, great for RVs. But not much to see driving through. They close a large section of park after 3 PM because birds start nesting then.

Sorry, really wasn't feeling the hundred character review. This is a wonderful park. I highly recommend this to anyone seeking an awesome retreat in THE fine state of Texas!!!

If you r ever in this area highly recommended. First, the camp host was so helpful, bathrooms spotless and wildlife really cool. Only issue is no satellite, phone service or WiFi...if u can get past that visit this park it's worth it.

We reserved two spots at the campground purely because we were unable to find open spots closer to the Austin area. We won't miss this treasure again. There are only 57 campsites in the park. It is circled with hiking trails. The river is not as close to the campsites as we thought but that was OK. We were concerned because there is only one restroom facility for the entire campground, but it was never a problem. The bathrooms are cleaned daily and well stocked. Showers are clean with LOTS of hot water! There are areas to put in kayaks and canoes along the river. This campground facility did not have a playground as many of them do, but we noticed that families brought there own toys, etc for little ones. Lots of places to bike. A+++

This delightful state park was not on our schedule this trip, as we passed through. Several times in the past we have stayed for at least two nights. We happened one time, to be on the seasonal migratory flight paths of Cardinals by the multiple hundreds. They were everywhere, entertaining us with their cheerie songs. Accompanying us, flitting from bush to bush as we walked the easy trails. Another overnight time, the far more elusive, plastic toy colorful, Painted Buntings were as common as chickens. Evening Deer families visited our campsite. Squirrels were present, crows and wild Turkeys roosted in the trees just off the trails. Comfortable blinds, seating (bring cushions) with large windows, had feeding areas to maintain flocks of birds for the birding photographers. Very nice state park. Pleasant and the river was not far away. Nearby Junction, off I-10, has the traveler's required needs covered.

When we first visited South Llano in May of 2014, We were returning from Dripping Springs on the way back to Ft Davis. we actually found this a pleasant surprise in our travels across TexasThe Park location only 6 miles South of I-10 in Junction was a perfect layover point while traveling with the trailer. The park itself is extremely clean and well maintained, RV services included 20/30 amp electrical, good water and spacious sanitary dump station and dumpsters. The sites are level, no pull-thru's, back-ins only, watch for trees. The heavily wooded camping ares offered plenty of shade, lots of birds including hummers The South Llano River is a short walk away, but further than I would prefer to walk, There is a parking area you can drive to access the river if you like. The restrooms and showers are clean and spacious, often very busy Friday thru Sunday. We have made this our official half way stop when traveling across Texas and using the park system for lodging in the travel trailer. The park rangers are helpful and knowledgeable of the unique area nestled in the hill country of central Texas. We have used this park 4 times this year for 1 or 2 day layovers. We hay stayed here in May, June, August and October. in our 25 ft travel trailer. ask for site # 45 or 46, these are double wides close to the showers. No Complaints about this park.Regards God Bless Texas.

My husband and I took our 2 year old son, 11 year old daughter and 2 small dogs camping for the weekend. Nice, mostly quiet park, extremely clean, super friendly rangers and park hosts. The bathrooms were the cleanest of any state park I have ever been to including parks in Arkansas. The rangers cleaned them every morning, even hosing down the walls with disinfectant. We were not able to hike any trails due to our son being so young but we did try our hand at fishing in Buck Lake (no bites) and stopped in at a bird blind. It is true that there is a large area of the park closed during turkey roosting time but that area is open from 10Am - 3PM daily. We saw deer, a roadrunner and the biggest, creepiest centipede I have ever seen in my life. We very much enjoyed playing in the river. It was shallow enough for our son to have a blast spending hours splashing and throwing rocks but moving enough for my daughter and I to shoot off the bridge area and float a little ways down. The park is also very dog friendly which was great. We were able to take them everywhere except inside the buildings. Site sizes vary drastically. Our site was huge, but some were tiny. If you are camping in a tent you will want a site past the bathrooms as the ones before that are very small and not much room for a tent. I walked thru the walk in tent sites and they are right on top of each other although I believe they only rent out half of them per night so people can spread out. There is also a pit toilet in that area as well. Overall a really nice park and we will return again.

I took my seven year old daughter here for a little 24 hour get away...one thing I noticed was that there were a lot of kids running around which, to me, was a good sign. Our campsite was nestled nicely under and next to lovely shade trees. The ground was soft, making it easy to push in the tent stakes virtually hammer free. The camp itself was nice and quiet except for the pleasant voices of children playing all around...My daughter enjoyed splashing in the river even without getting a tube to float in. We were pleasantly surprised to have two armadillos wander beside our tent early in the evening under the glow of our campfire. In the morning, my daughter was ecstatic to find deer grazing in route to the well kept restrooms. The only disappointment was to not be able to use all the trails for hiking due to the turkey roosting areas being closed this time of year. The weather was perfect, the stars were amazing, and the memories will be everlasting...

Junction is nestled in the beautiful Texas Hill Country. The small town gets it's name from the joining of the North and South Llano Rivers, and I was fortunate enough to grow up in the area. Looking back, I am so blessed for the experiences I had in and around that river during my youth. The river is certainly an attraction, but (thankfully) it is not an overpopulated one. In fact, I feel as though I grew up in/around a hidden gem of Texas. The rivers run year around, and they stay cool. My favorite pastimes include tubing from "the second crossing to the first," about 10 miles down Hwy. 377 towards Rocksprings. The float is roughly 3 - 4 hours, depending on how much time is spent lounging at the rock area immediately following the small water falls, or on one of 2 rope swings spaced appropriately among the float trip. I grew up on the river, down 377 from Junction the other direction, towards London and Mason. Our ranch is nestled right on the banks of the river, which provided constant entertainment growing up. The wildlife is plentiful, including white tail deer, Axis deer (more recently), turkey, birds, raccoons and other smaller creatures, bass/perch/catfish, and the occasional bobcat and even more occasional mountain lion. Junction is far from the city life, and I appreciate it so much now. A place with expansive open space, fresh air, and the most amazing view of the stars. If you ever find yourself driving through, I encourage you to take the exit into town and follow any road as you are guaranteed to cross the beautiful river.

4 different bird blinds in different environments, from hill country trail to river bottoms. Nice spacious camp sites with most being shaded. Camp host couple were fantastic!

While other Texas state parks struggle, South Llano is all of the positive adjectives you can imagine. Superb, spacious campsites, friendly staff and park hosts, nature trails, 4 great bird blinds and clean restrooms. Only negatives are beyond the parks control: no cable TV, no TV reception at all, no Wi-Fi, and cellphone usage is virtually nonexistent in the park. If you want nature camping, South Llano will not disappoint.

Very clean. Did not camp there, only a day trip. Lot's of wild life and nice walking trails to view the birds and critters.

We had a very enjoyable long weekend at the park. Hiked, kayaked, used the bird blinds, and enjoyed the river. We put in at Boone's Crossing and got out at the park. It took us 5.5 hours at a moderate pace with children. The river was pretty low in spots, but we still had a lot of fun. Our campsite was pleasant and shady. The park was full, but the sites are nicely arranged and noise was not a problem. The bird blinds were attractive and well-maintained. I saw my first indigo bunting at the blind near the campground. Fun! We were happy to find this campground and we'll definitely be back.

This is a very nice and well kept park. Clean with lots of shade and wildlife. Great if you like the river and hiking trails. I would go back and do it again.
