The staff was very friendly and knowledgeable about both Nacogdoches and Natchitoches, LA, the unofficial "sister city". Legend has it that a Caddo chieftain sent each of his twin sons to rule on both sides of the Sabine River, thus Nacogdoches and Natchitoches. I think perhaps it was due to the French and Spanish interpretation of the name of the Native American tribe they encountered in both Louisiana and Texas. They also have a large selection of postcards if you purchase these in places you visit. A short film is located int he basement. The restrooms are very clean. I suggest taking the time to read the informational signs on the grounds all around the info center and enjoying the statuary.

The staff was very friendly and knowledgeable. The nice lady told us a lot about the town and whats going on and where to go. Even marked the map for me for the places I asked about. Watched the short movie in the basement. Used the clean Bathroom facility and was good to go roam around the town. Thanks for an excellent welcome to Nacogdoches.

We found the information here very valuable since we knew very little about Nacogdoches other than it is the oldest town in Texas. The folks were friendly and helpful. There is a short film in the basement worth watching before you start out. We came away with all the information we needed.

I try to have very few dealings with the Nacogdoches Visitor's Center. The people that they have staff the information desk are rude and have very little knowledge of what is going on. I went to the visitor's center during the blueberry festival to find out where I might get some change as all the banks were closed,I was told I could go to the banks but since they were closed I might try Wal-mart which was at the very north end of the town. I gave up on getting change. That same day I tried to use the restroom in the visitor's Center and was refused access yet there were many patrons of the blueberry festival using it. Was told to go use the port-a-potty facilities. I am handicapped and it is difficult for me to manuver those types of facilities.

Staff was very welcoming and rolled out the Pink Carpet for our Girlfriend Weekend, the Pulpwood Queens Book Club Convention. Provided maps and bags.

They are open during the week on Sat and Sundays and is a great place to get local information. It has a beautiful mural on the way representing the history of Nacogdoches. The basement has beautiful painting going down the stairs. There is a video that plays all the time for local information. The weekends are staffed with volunteers. Many of the volunteers have lived here for a long time and knows the history of the town and the area. Many souvenirs to buy at the CVS representating the area.

What a pleasant surprise to wander into the visitor's center, while visiting Nacogdoches, for the first time. While not large, there is a lot of Information about Texas' oldest town. We learned about key players in the early settling of this area. Maps, pins, postcards, and a book are available for purchase. There is a free , well- done video, ( that lasts about 10 minutes), in the downstairs area, where you will also find a few more cases of historic treasures.Ask the staff about any "things to see", for a walking tour map, or how to get to the fort, or the Stern- Hoya house. All are within walking distance of this well maintained center.Walk the couple of blocks down the street the visitor center sits on, and enjoy antique shops, a glass making shop, an ice cream shop, restaurant/ cafes, churches, even the Mercantile store, which is located on the street behind the visitor's center, right next to the fire department . There is a real sense of stepping back in time here. Plan a couple hours to a full day.

A doorway to weekday you will find in this historic town. Most places you can walk to from this location. People are nice and love what they do. Neat items and displays.

I start this review at the Nacogdoches Convention & Visitor Bureau (CVB) at downtown. Outside is an historial marker. Inside the CVB is the 9 flags of Texas and many historical attractions. Also in downtown is Old Towne deli where you can get something to eat. At Heart of Texas are gifts and souveniers. There is also the Stern Hoya House an old historic house. At the campus of SFASU is the Stone Fort Museum.Last is at Millard's Crossing where you find an old church, old house, log office, school house, and main office. There is much more to do in Nacogdoches, but for country fun is the beautiful Lake Nacogdoches about 25 miles west on Hwy. 21. There are covered picnic tables and a covered fishing pier. So kick back and sit on your ice chest and fish and enjoy the lake in the shade in quiet.

If this is your first visit to Nacogdoches, this is a good place to get “feel for the land”. Center was staffed by two very friendly hosts who knew the area well and offered tips and ideas for sites to see.Inside the visitor center is a nice modest museum with insights to the city and history of being settled. Plan on watching the movie downstairs, it’s very informative.Lots of Texas history within a 50 mile radius of Nacogdoches and the visitor center is a great source of maps of the area with lots of sites to see. You can easily spend a week in the area taking everything in.
