I stayed in one of the campgrounds for a couple nights, it's a big old park, nicely laid out camping spots ( some overlooking the lake ) try and book areas 2 and 3 which are by the lake, my spot ( area1 ) was ontop of a hill. Very nice trails, well used so nice and easy to follow, 14 miles in total and I loved them. All in all, it's a very nice park centered around a beautiful lake, it's also a smashing place for a picnic or a swim, they have cabins and shelters too

We have been to this park several times and always enjoy it. RV campsites are layed out well, level, and spaced to provide a little privacy. Bike and hiking trails are well maintained. Great peaceful park with friendly rangers.

We went in the fall, and hiked for most of a day. Very nice and well signposted trails, great for the changing colors in Fall.

We stayed in a screened camp building with power and on a concrete floor. I remember that the concrete got mighty hard under a sleeping bag. There was running water right at the site. We were there while the lake was open for swimming and water activities. We had a great time. This is a great place to go with fairly young children.

Its a really beautiful state park and not too far from the Dallas area. We visited in spring and really loved the place. The camping site was very close to the lake and a well maintained one. The park itself is very serene with multiple trails to hike. The hikes were very comfortable and not too hard to complete. We did leave on packet of food outside by mistake at night and we could hear racoons fighting at night :). Overall its a great place to relax out away from the city.

Tyler state park is a good place to go swimming, canoe/kayaking, trail hiking, and camping. Never caught a fish, but it's the only place I know of locally that you do not have to have a fishing license to fish, so that's a plus. Remember to lock up and HIDE your valuables! There was a string of break ins over this past summer (2014), but the breaks ins were not only in this park. They happened a lot in the Tyler area in general.

We loved Tyler State Park for many reasons but mostly because it is a very beautiful park filled with 75-100 year-old pine and hardwood trees. We were able to see large fish in the tip of the lake as we sat on the bench enjoying our stay. They have fantastic walking trails are are definitely pet friendly.

Just returned from my second visit to Tyler State Park, a gem of a CCC park. It has a pleasant spring-fed lake you can swim in (though I don't advise it in November), good mountain bike trails, a little hiking, nice park staff/rangers, and really nice sites. The sites are walking distance from the lake and the camp store in case you need bait or ice cream sandwiches or s'more fixins or whatever. Do know if you go in cold weather that the bath houses aren't heated. My only complaint is that the place is overrun with raccoons. Signs say not to feed them, but they are generally quite competent at breaking into most coolers and helping themselves. They are not shy about following you around, either. Secure your food/coolers and keep your tiny dogs leashed! But do visit Tyler State Park.

This place is in the piney woods, and it it such a beauty. The staff are very welcoming. Soon as we parked to register, 2 staff were standing outside of the office, waving at us, and with bright smiles. We were given good options for our camping. The site that we chose was excellent, lots of trees, and we could see the lake. Driving around the park was such a pleasant one, with all the trees, and all the zigzags, and up and down road. They also have a platform on the lake for fun loving kids to jump from. That weekend, they had Halloween activites, with hayride, contests for best costume, and best decoration. It was a fun weekend. Accommodation was great., and very relaxed. I would love to go back for another camping.

Tyler State Park is a little slice of delight right in the middle of East Texas. My favorite time for a visit has always been during the spring when the dogwood trees are in bloom and their bright white flowers illuminate the forest in a beautiful way. There are some nice simple hiking trails here and none are too hard for even a young family. In fact, it is easy to feel at ease and and relaxed at the park. WE always have loved camping in the many camp sights around the lake. In the summer months the lake is open for swimming and there is a very nice swimming area to be enjoyed along with paddle boats and canoes. Riding bicycles in the park is always great fun and there are some very nice hilly drives to enjoy. I would highly recommend the park to couples as well as families. Not forgetting that singles have no problem finding many fun things to do here also. There are a couple of food establishment near the park if you aren't in to cooking out. I highly recommend Tyler State Park.

I signed up for a race a few weeks ago....thinking it would be a fun diversion. I've never been out to Tyler State Park....but I've herd some good things. I've just recently moved to Tyler from the Dominican Republic where I've been tearing it up in the Master's category for some years. Anyway, I was pleasantly surprised at the technical difficulty of the trails. Was a perfect morning, in the mid 60's! Cant wait to go back, and take my daughter, Keren, who is also a monster on these sorts of trails! I'd recommend a visit to TSP for anyone with a hankering for some great riding. there are several loops with different difficulty levels, so bring the whole family. BTW, great camping spots as well, so make a weekend out of it!

Me and my husband remember camping at Tyler State Park when we were kids. Now we love taking our children to the park. They really like spending time on the lake and hiking. We plan on using the park more frequently now that we have a park pass.

Very good, low cost swimming, boating, fishing opportunity. Scenic. Nice campsites and picnic areas. Friendly staff. Good restroom facilities.

Few of us camped Tyler State Park and its one of the best and cheap and best getaways. We rented the Screened shelters and it was awesome. The lake provides good opportunity for the kids to swim. You can get your river tube or canoe and use the lake. The park has hot showers and few trails which provides you with a great outdoor activity. Its a fun place in a short distance from the metro.
