I took a level II avalanche course from SMG and thought it was a great course. The instructors are top-notch and have a TON of experience. And the mountains are incredible! Stanley is a cool little town too. Check out the Sluice for beers and burgers! Thanks Chris, Sara, Kirk, and Erik!

These guys and gals are true professionals. They live to teach and provide an excellent course. I took away so much from this Level 2 and I will be safer because of it. If you are considering avalanche education, Sawtooth Mountain Guides should be your first stop. Their facilities and course materials are top notch. This course was structured in such a way that all of the little pieces are slowly brought together into a cohesive and streamlined process by the end. On top of all the great things I have to say about the company and its instructors, you couldn't take a class like this in a more beautiful location. There is amazing skiing to be had in every direction from Stanley, ID. Plus, Stanley itself is a great place to visit. I highly recommend this company for any type of guided service.

Even though we didn't think we were going to have great snow, our guides worked with us to find the best snow in the area. Very professional, well done, with excellent planning. During no time during the course did I feel like I was in danger at all, or even that the instructors were misguiding me. Excellent company!

Absolutely wonderful course. They really kept everything moving the whole weekend. Provided quality information in a timely manner. I was always engaged in the experience. Lots of hands-on practice and fieldwork with just enough classroom information to keep you warm and well informed.

I took a 3 day course with the Sawtooth Mountain Guides and it was first class. Even if you don't want to take a course, the return on your investment from spending the day in the mountains with an expert is life-changing. Summer or winter, take the time to do something out of your comfort zone using these awesome guides as your motivation. It will be worth every penny and will pay you back for years as you remember your adventures.

The Sawtooth Mountain Guides did a fabulous job teaching our group in an Avy 1 class. I was really impressed that they were able to connect with each member of a group that included a wide range of prior experience. Also, they went above and beyond in accommodating the needs of our group as we set the class up. Beautiful mountains and powder skiing didn't hurt either. Here's hoping we can get a hut trip in sometime soon.

I took an AIARE Avalanche 1 course with SMG, and it was excellent. The curriculum was well planned, the instructors were very knowledgeable, the material was helpful, and the skiing was awesome. SMG was very flexible, working with us to accommodate our travel plans and meeting us a few towns over for part of the course. I had a great experience with them, and would certainly recommend them to anyone else looking for a course in the area. And if you're still deciding on a trip destination, know that the Sawtooth Mountains are amazing. Every bit as stunning as the Tetons, with far fewer people.

Super course in a STUNNING location. I've been good friends with Erik Leidecker for may years, and to witness the awesome accumulated knowledge of over 2 decades worth of active exploring in the mountains was a real treat. The guides were totally professional, food was great, course was a flood of awesome, important information. Can't imagine it could be any better.

Erik, Drew and Matt did a great job of presenting the Avy Level 1 material in an easy to follow way. The especially did a good job highlighting the stuff that will do the most to keep you alive. And the area was unbeatable!

We coordinated a family backcountry ski trip with Chris and Sara Lundy from Sawtooth Mountain Guides. We had a large group with beginners and some tentative skiers. We also had a couple of boarders in our group. Chris, and our other guide Drew, did an excellent job instructing us, and getting us to a terrain that all could enjoy. The experience was more than we would have asked for. Great guides, with exceptional service. We hope to use them again.

Last weekend I took the Backcountry Skills course with Sawtooth Mountain Guides. We met at their new HQ in Stanley. While getting to know our group, I was impressed with their facility, big screen monitor to review the online avalanche reports, plenty of room to get packed up. After a good intro, we drove out to the trailhead and skinned up to the Williams yurt. We had three days of great instruction, food that exceeded my expectations and great fellowship. The yurt was cozy and comfortable and all gear provided was high quality and in great repair. The instruction was a great balance of talked and practical experience on the mountain. Our instructors Mark Hanselman and Drew Dailey kept it fun and made sure everything went smoothly. I look forward to my next trip with SMG.

Went out for a day of rock climbing on the Super Slabs near Redfish Lake with SMG and had a wonderful experience. Our guide was fantastic at teaching about the gear and the environment. He also did a nice job of engaging my teenage daughter.Particular kudos to SMG for listening to what we wanted to do and then suggesting something that met our needs perfectly. They're very flexible--give them a call.
