Its a nice walk to an attractive building and marsh. I don't know what programs they offer, but as a walk, its pleasant

I really nice walk and an enjoyable lunchtime retreat to get a little fresh air and exercise. The grounds are very nice and easy to navigate.

The refuge is at the south end of the Wilmington Riverwalk. There's some nice landscaping at the entrance, an interesting education building, and a short boardwalk in a circle through the marsh. Most of the refuge's land is inaccessible marshland. Stop by if you're already walking along the river but it's not worth making it a destination by itself.

We walked the boardwalk slowly (15 minutes) and saw two ducks and a lot of weeds. After seeing the amazing gardens of some of the Dupont homes, this was not much to see.

Our grandchildren, ages 3 and 7, love to come here to explore nature. The staff are child friendly and talk to them on their level so they understand the way many animals and other creatures live, eat, etc. It's fun for them to spot the different birds and animals in the area. There are a few "hands on" items in the building and a walkway out in the marshy area. It's a new experience every time you go.

It's a nice place for a peaceful walk along the river and around the marsh on a boardwalk they built right in the marshland. You can see many different types of turtles and birds and they do have some small exhibits set up in the building itself. It is easily accessible from I-95 and they do have restrooms on location.

Located on the Wilmington Riverfront, this is a short trip down the walkway form the riverfront restaurants. inside the main house there is a friendly staff to greet you and give you the nickel tour, tell you a little about the history of the area, and touchscreen video displays that give you all the rest of the particulars. Nice boardwalk that you can go out into the wetlands and see some of the natural habitat. Also has a facility to host events, birthdays, weddings, etc, very picturesque landscaping. Recommended, and free!

This is a very pleasant get away. The Environmental Center was closed. (on Mondays) we went to check it out after finding it on the web. Always looking for free places of interest to take my grandkids or the people I work with. It was a nice easily navigated stroll for a small group of individuals with physical disabilities. There were 2 small buses of children there from a day care, but it was surprisingly quiet! Definitely worth the stop and very easy on and off 95. If you're passing thru DE and traffic is at a crawl...... I would definitely get off the interstate and cool your road rage with a quick side trip to the refuge.

We only saw one bird, but the walk itself is well worth it! This was one of the best walks ever! There is so much to see and smell as you walk through the Russell W. Peterson Wildlife Refuge.

Traffics was just awful leaving Philly so we decided to stop at waterfront and walk around and came upon this nature center. Are you kidding me? This place is unbelievable!!! I would love to love here!!! It's right next to the train tracks, kind of crazy, but fun. The learning center has several levels. Everything is clean and new. The walking paths are raised and very safe. It's fun to see all the creatures living in the swamps and birds native to the lands. The volunteers who staffed the building were super friendly. Bathrooms clean. Lots of take away materials about the wildlife as well as the area. Highly recommend decompressing from the traffic or just digesting from a local restaurant and just stopping by. Plenty of free, safe parking.

Wilmington has a lot of interesting places due to the DuPonts settling there. This place is within city limits yet it doesn't seem so. The wildlife loop is deserted of critters in mid-day...IF you want to see wildlife you have to go in the early morning when animals are just waking and beginning to forage or go at the end of the day when they're looking for a nighttime snack. The info center is geared to little kids, but the people inside are friendly and eager for visitors... the entire area is pet friendly. That I liked! I wish this place was closer to home...I would be a regular visitor for sure.Russell Peterson was an avid wildlife lover and the design of the property is a fine tribute to a former governor of the state. As you stroll through the garden areas you will find many treats . I will recommend a visit to anyone looking to get in touch with nature and, in fact, already done so. Check it out... You won't be sorry.

From our hotel, this was a nice walk along the river front. We were too late to go inside the Visitor's center, but the walk through this area is lovely. This area has been redeveloped and with many terrific restaurants and bars, it is a great place to visit.

We walk along the RiverFront very regularly and love the Wildlife Refuge! The city did an incredible job with this. The refuge is at the end of the RiverFront in Wilmington. It is an amazing and beautiful place. It is handicap accessible. They have an awesome boardwalk you can stroll. In the summer they even have chairs to sit on and watch the river. There are bulletin boards that show the sights of wildlife. They even have educations session for all ages. What a lovely place to see.

The wildlife refuge on the Christina River is beautiful and educational. The bridge over the train tracks is a pleasant sky walk to get there. It's chock full of exhibits which have things for lifelong Wilmington residents and children alike.

Come down here to see the wildlife. There is a cool park and a foot bridge that takes you over the railroad tracks. Once on the other side you'll see a pond (not necessarily teeming) with wild life. Your kids will enjoy this excursion.
