Had a great adventure out on the trail. Steve our guide took us and showed places of interest including the B52 crash site near Elephant mountain. Staff at the shop are so helpful to kitting us out for the cold and printed off boarding passes.

I have been meaning to write this review for a few months now. My brother, sister in law and their two small children and I decided to go on a Moose Safari through Northwoods this past summer and it truly was a unique experience. My sister in law was 7 months pregnant at the time and she still found this trip very enjoyable. Matt went above and beyond to make sure that we saw as many moose as possible and his level of professionalism was impeccable. He really found a way to relate to the kids and make sure they knew what to expect before going out on the water. We took some beautiful photos and created some great memories that I hope the kids will remember. It was a trip of a lifetime that I will never forget. I highly recommend the Moose Safari trip through Northwoods. Make sure to request Matt as your guide! I can't wait to do some ice fishing with him this winter as well!!!

We recently traveled to Moosehead Lake hoping to see some Moose. We were not disappointed as we saw two magnificent creatures, one Bull and a beautiful cow. Our guide, Eric Hollbrook, was amazing. He knew were to find the moose. He could even call the moose out of the forest. Eric is also a well known fishing guide. We learned so much about the local fishing scene talking with Eric. Earlier that day, Eric took a group out fishing and someone capsized their canoe. Eric had to jump in the cold water to help them. After his fishing tour he had to hurry back to Northwoods to lead our Moose expedition . We didn't have much daylight left, Eric wasn't going to let us down. I later found out he did our 3 hour tour soaking wet. He could have canceled, but that's not Eric. What a great man. I only wish I were a fisherman as I would love to go fishing with Eric. Fishing is his passion. He owns the bait shop in town and carefully harvest Smelt by hand by night and provides them to the ice fishermen in the winter. Eric is a fascinating guide. I highly recommend him.

We were visiting Maine for a wedding and long weekend getaway. We had a free day and decided that we wanted to drive 3 hours north to increase our chances of seeing a moose. We discovered Northwoods Outfitters online and were pleased with the service we received. They were able to answer our numerous questions and set us up with a private moose tour, since all of the group tours during our stay were full. Our tour was partially by van (a little older and a bit noisy..I was afraid it would scare any moose away) and partially by canoe. We had high hopes of seeing a moose. After about 2 1/2 hours of driving and paddling with our guide we had not seen a moose. Our hopes started to fade. Lucky for us in the last hour of our trip we stumbled upon a young female in the woods! I would recommend dressing warm and bringing along a snack. The trip is a little lengthy. Good luck!

Well we did the private moose tour in Greenville Maine. We saw no moose despite being in the woods for 5 hours. We realize we were looking for an animal. The guide was very nice and really tried but.... There were so many grouse hunters on the same roads we were and our van was so so noisy the moose knew there were lots of people in the woods so they were no where to be found! No one told us it was hunting season -perhaps it was a bad weekend to go but I guess they wouldn't tell you that. Also for the cost of the trip a bottle of water would have been nice after hour 4 - if they couldn't have a cooler in the huge van they could have suggested taking some and we would have taken our own. Didn't really realize we would be no where to get a drink of water for 5 hours and being on really dusty dirt roads. When I asked the woman at the store about a refund since we didn't see any moose and had an emergency at home and could not stay she commented to a worker she wondered if she could get a refund since she didn't catch a fish on her fishing trip - very very rude woman - I only asked because it discussed refund on their website if you didn't see moose. Well of course we did not qualify for that. She did give us a refund for half of our room cost tho which I told her I appreciated. Also gave us a voucher for a trip good for a year but it took us 12 hours to get there from PA and we won't be making that trip anytime soon If at all. We were just disappointed in the whole experience paying so much for it. The woman at the store was not nice at all and prompted me to nit pick about the small things. There was no guidance as to what we could take along with us,like drinks ,a cooler or snacks. But beware not everyone sees a moose as their website boasts. My experience at York Beach Maine sitting by the ocean was much more relaxing!

In the area for only a couple of days, we are so glad we did a moose-watching safari with you! What a perfect way to enjoy a beautiful evening in Maine...in a canoe on a quiet secluded pond in the woods with a guide like Ethan. Eagle-eyed, he spotted and pointed out grouse and turkey on the drive to and from the pond, and yes, moose once we arrived at our destination! After putting the canoes in the water and paddling across the pond, our eyes and minds became totally absorbed in watching a young moose eating along the shore in the shallow water. All of us were reluctant to head back to shore when it was time. Before we started back to civilization, a welcome snack of brownies and iced tea was provided. Especially enjoyable was listening to Ethan unassumingly share his knowledge and love of wildlife and the outdoors (Maine in particular) with us. Our group was varied in age and experience, and he graciously made sure everyone was comfortable and had a good time, willingly spending extra time after we arrived back at the office helping with directions and patiently answering questions even though it was late. Very reasonable price for a priceless few hours.

We saw one moose and had a good time and learned a lot about them. We chose a private tour and it lasted a little over 4 hours and was worth it. Our guide was knowledgable and personable. Something you should do while in the area for sure.

My parents and I went on a private moose safari with Matt and had a great time. He was extremely well versed in the area and knew the best areas to go to spot moose. Matt knew how to appropriately "approach" (ie get near without scaring) the moose so that we could get a better viewing. He also educated us on their mating patterns, communication, and the lifespan of the moose. He was very personable, funny and entertaining. We had a beautiful canoe ride out into a "pond" (ie large lake by most standards) and spotted an extremely large moose. It was beautiful and peaceful! I would highly recommend Northwoods Outfitters and Matt as your guide.

Matt was our guide on a awesome trip to a remote area north of Greenville. It was a private trip which I would highly recommend. It was well worth the extra cost. Saw 5 moose, 2 bald eagles, and numerous other wildlife. It was so relaxing out in nature and Matt was very knowledgeable. On our return stopped to see the beautiful sunset over Moosehead Lake. Check out a trip when you,re in Greenville.

We went on a moose tour last year with Ashley through Northwoods. When we returned to the area this summer, we called for a repeat trip because last year's was so good! Ashley didn't disappoint - she gave us an incredible amount of natural history and wildlife management information and she taught us how to behave to not scare away any potential moose sightings. Last year we went on a morning trip, this year we went in the afternoon. The first pond we visited was the same place where we saw a moose last year and we saw another one this year! Then we canoed at a second pond and also saw one there! Ashley and Northwoods are fantastic!

The Moose safari itself was pretty good. They took us on a canoe tour thru a beautiful lake with very scenic views. That took about an hour and a half and we did not catch a single moose during our canoe time. Then we drove thru a lot of back country roads in search of one. Eventually as we were ending and giving up hope we saw one thru the trees. We only had time to take a couple of pics of a barely visible moose and a big tour party with kids came up behind us. That scared the moose and that was the end of our tour.So have to downgrade this as even though the tour was good; we did not experience the final goal of seeing a Moose close by on a MOOSE SAFARI.

My wife and I vacationed in Acadia N.P. for the week after Labor Day and one of the things we had to do was see a moose while we were in Maine. I have wanted to see a moose all my life, so, we drove the 3 hours from Acadia N.P. to the Moosehead Lake Region (also beautiful) to go on the Moose Safari. We chose the private Moose Safari. Our guide, Steve, was awesome. He was extremely knowledgable about moose, Maine, outdoors and all the like. He drove us out to some remote part of Maine in the forest where we canoed on a completely hidden and wild lake. The lake canoeing itself was very pretty, and the three of us were literally the only three humans to be seen or heard for many miles.Steve clearly has Eagle-eyes when it comes to spotting moose; soon after we launched the canoe he spotted a (male) moose in a bush - neither of us saw it! We quietly watched the moose and continued paddling along the lake and where he spotted two more moose (female) eating. Again, we quietly watched near those moose. On the way back was the most amazing! During the sunset, we saw a male moose and female moose. We were so close we could hear them eat, hear the water dripping off those snout, hear them grunt and we can hear and see the water going every which way when the moose would shake it off their bodies. Needless to say, we were really close and it was magnificent (but he always kept us a safe distance)! We actually had to paddle in-between the two moose to get back to the canoe launch point! The whole trip was amazing, and we will remember it for the rest of our lives! We would strongly recommend this to all moose enthusiasts. Ask for Steve!Chris & Sabrina03-Sept-2014; Evening Moose Safari

If you enjoy the outdoors and wildlife as much as we do, make a reservation now with Northwoods Outfitters. We came to Maine for our honeymoon, called last minute to Northwoods Outfitters for a moose safari, and ended up with a private tour for a very modest, affordable price, along with wonderful customer service. We met our guide, Steve, shortly afterwards, and began our tour....Steve was an awesome guide, very insightful and well-knowledged, we learned so much about the Moosehead Lake region and the wildlife of the area, especially moose. After being on the water in a canoe for quite awhile, nothing came into sight, but just like that, quite literally, two moose came into view, feeding on the marsh greens...Steve brought us in as close as 6-7 feet, and the moose paid no mind! This was an experience you would not forget, I've been deer hunting my whole life and have not ever been this close to wild animals...well worth it, five-stars, hands down!

My wife and I visited Maine for the first time this August. We had never seen a Moose before, had limited time during our trip, and didn't want to be disappointed. Northwood Outfitters advertises a 97% success rate and they certainly delivered on their promise. We took a canoe tour on August 15 at 4PM and our guide, Matt Levigne, was AWESOME! He knew just about everything about moose, answered all of our questions, and took us to the best spot for moose watching... a beautiful calm lake that moose apparently love. Thanks to Matt's eagle eyes, we were able to identify seven moose over a two hour period. We paddled our canoes to get close up views of all the moose and even got close enough to one of them to actually hear the moose chewing it's food.We thank Matt and Northwoods Outfitters for making this the trip of a lifetime.P.S. Don't forget to bring a good camera and sunblock!
