We took our four kids there and they enjoyed it so much they did not want to leave. It was really fun, learned a lot of history and took tons of photos.

If you love the Ky Derby and want to visit Churchill Downs, This is the first place you need to visit.

Museum is good, nice people, excellent exhibits but the tour was closed and we couldn't see the property

Even if you are not interested in horse racing, you will walk away with a sense of the long history and tradition of the "Most exciting 2 minutes in sports." The museum has done a wonderful job of creating some interactive displays such as the booth where you can try out your announcer skills ( NOT as easy as it sounds) or "ride" a horse in a race. My only disappointment was the fact that the actual track was closed due to weather conditions. And one last note, this is not a huge museum, so I would imagine in tourist season, try to get there early so you can try all the exhibits without much of a wait.

Well worth the trip. Even if you are not a horse race fan, there is a lot here to like. Make sure you take the additional tour of the racecourse. Makes you want to put the next Kentucky Derby on your schedule. Don't pass up the cafe - not your usual meseum grub.

We took our girl scout troop here and the girls loved all the activities there that was offered. We loved seeing the gowns and hats, such class! I loved the movie viewed from all angles. This museum has a lot to offer.

Very nice and lots of fun for all ages! Be certain to watch the Derby film in the round and visit the garden behind the museum.

This is a beautiful attraction and the staff are exceptionally good, we visited a year ago and can't wait to return to visit again and hopefully one day to see the derby

This Museum gives the visitor a true history of Churchill Downs and the Kentucky Derby Experience. Because it is on the same grounds as Churchill Downs, you can also take a tour of the track. There is a Spring meet and fall meet at the track, otherwise there are not any horse racing dates. The Museum is also an awesome venue for an event. My granddaughter had her wedding reception there. It was one of the nicest receptions that I have attended. We could visit the museum exhibits during the social hour and then went into another room for dinner. Being in the Derby Museum gave the occasion a festive feel. The catered dinner was not as good as one would expect for such an elaborate affair.

This is one of the best experiences in Louisville. The theater in the round gives you the feel of being at the Derby. The displays are interesting and there are many interactive ones. The cafe offers a tasty break and then take the tour of the actual track and the excitement of being where the horses have raced and the fun of being in the winner's circle. One of the best Louisville attractions! Enjoy!

My wife and I thoroughly enjoyed our time in the museum. This was a great addition to our two day visit to the Derby. The museum is so packed with history as well as other fun activities. My wife really enjoyed riding the mechanical horse. Pretty good for a beautiful 72 year old lady. I would highly recommend this attraction.

We stopped here with our 8 yr.old grandson this winter. very interesting. We saw the movie on a 360 degree screen and took the walking tour. We did not eat at the restaurant but the menu looked delicious . However we did make a stop at the gift shop !!!! Great stuff

This museum is SO well-done! From the very first entry point, going through the museum gate with the bank of TV screens showing the horses and jockeys come pounding out of the gate, you feel the adrenaline flow. You get to see a whole wall of beautiful and crazy hats...and imagine which one you would wear. ;) You get to do simulated betting and jockeying (couldn't drag the kiddos away from those exhibits). You get to see all the winners' names/ stats & the jockey "silks" (uniforms) pictured on the wall. The theatre plays a 17-min movie on the excitement/ work/ thrill of the Derby, and it is a one-of-kind experience. The large screen is an oval, and you watch the movie like you are watching a race! The chairs have no back so you can keep turning to take it all in. The second floor has classy displays of quotes and great exhibits on what it takes to be a racehorse and jockey, as well as a nice art gallery with local students' artwork (which was so good!). Finally you get to take a tour and go upstairs to the Churchhill Downs clubhouse, as well as step out to view The Track, the amazing track. You can almost feel the roar of the crowd by that time and see all the crazy-fun spectators anticipating the start of the Derby. It is clear from all the good information we got from the tour guide that Kentuckians are very proud of the Kentucky Derby and Churchhill Downs in general. And they should be. It was a thrill to be here, and I only hope I can come back again someday for "the first Saturday in May."
