This is a beautiful island in Lakshadweep but not the best. The beaches are having sharp stones, corals etc so wear easy waterproof slippers or sandals even while doing water sports or snorkeling. Use suntan waterproof lotions extensively and keep drinking water.Kids must be monitored and taken to shade periodically to avoid skin burn or rashes. Use headgear, goggles and ladies may wear clothes with sleeves to protect from sun.Only BSNL mobiles work on the islands. The ships serve basic food so carry any extra eatables that you prefer.Get rest in the afternoons. Scuba diving is done and taught and is a must try for anybody over 8 years.Wonderful lifetime experience with turquoise blue waters and white sand beaches

We did family vacation of lakshadweep islands with Samudram package. Kalpeni island had amazing coastline and mini islands which lent beautiful landscaping. Blue waters lent a sense of innermost peace . We did snorkeling in Kalpeni island and explored corals popular in this island.Overall , a must visit in one's lifetime :).

Kalpeni is one of the non-commercialized islands in Lakshadweep and hence a natural beauty.Like most of the tourists, I travelled through SPORTS, Samudram package. After disembarkation, we reached the the SPORTS office on a beach from which one could see two islands - Tilakam and Pitti. It was a beautiful scene.Snorkelling @ Pitti island: We were taken in boats to Pitti Island, which is around 1 km from Kalpeni beach. We enjoyed Kayaking & Snorkelling there. Snorkelling was truly amazing - I spotted starfishes, various colors of corals, christmas tree worms, Powder blue surgeons and a lot of anemone fishes - and all this just 500mts from the shore! Just carry an underwater camera, atleast a underwater housing for the cam. I didn't have one and regretted it later :(Desiccated coconut oil and powder manufacturing unit: This small factory is run by the government. Coconut farming is the main occupation of the locals. They demonstrated the process of desiccated coconut powder and coconut oil extraction. coconut powder (90 INR per kg), virgin coconut oil and coconut ladoos are sold here. And that's the sole shopping destination(!) in Kalpeni, or the whole of Lakshadweep ;) Forget the souvenirs, you wont find a single shop for those.Northern tip beach: The northern tip beach with white sand, small formations of rocks made it beautiful before sunset. My friend went for scuba diving there and she could spot various varieties of fishes. Many have reviewed that there was no underwater photography here, but the dive center had bought a new underwater cam when we were visiting and were getting trained in that. I guess by the time I'm reviewing it, they would be using the equipment for the tourists. Heard from the locals that the other nearby island, Cheriyam has a serene beach. We didn't go there as we were in a package trip and were running out of time. If you have time for it, make friends with the locals and try visiting it..

Me and my wife visited this island as part of Coral Reef package from SPORTS along with Karavatti. This resort (they call it tourist hut) has a very beautiful and safe lagoon. You dont see high waves here and the island has lot of stones and coral life (very less sand beaches). The water sports activities we did in the island were snorkeling, kayaking, glass boat ride. You can do Scuba diving too but they didnt had under water photo or video facility (so we did scuba in Karavatti). After the water sports lunch was served and then we saw Native folk dance. We then visited other places in the island on a Maruti Omni, we went to two factories (T-Shirt and Coconut products factory) and to a the north end of the island to see a beach. After the evening tea we were taken back to the jetty and from their to our ship. The whole stay on the island was between 8 AM to 5.30 PM.Everything was included in the Coral Reef package except for the Scuba diving which costs Rs 1500 (without photos + videos).Overall the best experience and really enjoyed the stay, people and SPORTS staff are really helpful.

coral can be seen here. not very attractive island. package tour from MV Kavarati includes it. nice Arabian sea bath. good fish to watch. some coconut by product material can be seen and purchase. tuna fish are immensely available. kayaking, snorkeling can be made but not as much enjoyable as like Kavarati and Minicoy. over all nice place to visit. sleep in arm rest chair in the beach. nice folk dance by local people. An adventure trip can arranged to this place in life.

Lakshadweep is an ideal place for a family holiday. We visited via SPORTS organisation and had opted for the Coral Reef Package. We moved from island to island during the night in the MV Tipu Sultan and spent the day at the islands. We visited Kalpeni, Kadamat and Minicoy. The white coral reef beaches are an out of the world experince. Food in teh ship and during day time was very good and there was a homely atmosphere. We were about 5 families and the entire beach was somewhat to ourselves, especially in Kalpeni.Scuba Diving was an experience in itself. The visit gives an idea how fragile the ecosystem it and we learn to respect every bit of it.A must visit.

Lovely Snorkeling Site. The beach is strewn with corals which cut your shoes and legs. Strong currents. The beach resort is basic but nice. Lovely view. Check out http://movingfinger.hubpages.com/hub/How_to_plan_a_trip_to_lakshadweep_and_minicoy_islands for more details

We visited the Island as a part of a conducted tour and stayed there for a day. Arrived in the morning and left in the evening while out ship (M V Tipu Sultan) was waiting in the ocean. The island is very rich in flora and fauna and is a very nice place for snorkeling and kayaking. The beaches have pure white sands and the water is rich blue-green in color. You might think for a moment that you are in Maldives. The island is very small and you can literally wank from one end to the other within an hour (you really do not need to do that of course). The food served there by the locals (part of the tour) was very very good and contained many local dishes that tasted absolutely delicious. The locals are very tourist friendly and eager to help you.Last but not the least. You will feel sad while leaving the island and will remember the beauty and hospitality of this place for the rest of your life.

My husband and I spent a day on Kalpeni Island while on a visit to the Lakshadweep. Lakshadweep are a group of Islands very rich in Marine Life. Kalpeni has a beautiful Lagoon very rich in marine life especially the Corals. The Island itself is pretty small but the waters are beautiful. We had a very pleasant day snorkelling and Kayaking. As the facilities are very rudimentary scuba diving is not possible.
