We decided to go to a winery on our way home from Cooma. The restaurant was closed when we were there so we didn't get to go there, but the wines we sampled were lovely. Our friends didn't like the fact there is a tasting fee which is refunded/credited off purchases, but we've been to several wineries who charge such a fee.I would go back.

Lark Hill wines are a great asset to the cool climate wineries around Canberra. With beautifully crafted wines made biodynamically, Lark Hill should be known more widely! We picked up a few bottles of their 2013 Shiraz Viognier, which had received great reviews recently in the wine media, this morning at the Canberra Farmers Market and were reminded how rare it is to have naturally made wines.

My husband is a wine buff so wanted to stop in here when we were in the area. David the winemaker was manning the cellar door and he was a great host. He talked us through his various wines which all have biodynamic certification, a great ecological self-sufficiency methodology. We enjoyed our morning, the cellar door was charming and we had a good chat with Dave, bought some delicious wines and he encouraged us to check out the restaurant on the way out even though we already had plans for lunch. It was a fresh, modern space overlooking the vineyard and the menu did sound delicious. We definitely want to come back and try it

The winery visit that didn't happen. Myself and six friends visiting from Canada decided to do a wine tour today (Monday 14/7). I had chosen three wineries with Lark Hill being the first. I checked the websites for all of the wineries several times in the last few weeks to ensure that the opening hours for the chosen few hadn't changed. We arrived at Larks Hill at approximately 10.50am. The cellar door had the closed sign displayed, so I decided to call their number which went straight to a recorded message indicating the cellar door was open Wednesday through Monday, clearly this wasn't the case. We decided to wait until just after 11am in which time another couple arrived. No one turned up so we decided to move on to Lerida Estate at Lake George, who were very accommodating and had fantastic wines. Not good Lark Hill!!

Went in 5 $ for tasting is fine I expected that But rude comments on my wifes appearance from a lady who was wearing a torn jumper. We were dressed to go to a christening in the area but thought we'd stop off on way home.Wine was mostly average. Not worth getting anything for the price. I will not be returning and will not recommended to anyone. Poor poor.

After a pleasant lunch at the Lark Hill Restaurant we stopped in at the cellar door to try some more of the wines. There is a $5 tasting fee "refunded on purchase" but the owner explained that the fee really only applies if you decide you don't want to buy anything. It wasn't a problem for us as we fell in love with a few wines and ended up buying a mixed box.The building is really interesting - the walls are made from stone that has been collected on sight and it has a great feel. The wines were excellent and the person who ran us through the tasting clearly knew her stuff.Like the restaurant, the cellar door has a lovely wood fire and it was hard to drag ourselves away on such a cold day. We'll be back!

We were warned by the hosts at the B&B at which we stayed that the woman who serves customers at Lark Hill Cellar Door is not a 'people person'. Boy was this a huge understatement.Firstly, unusual to all the other cellar doors in the area, they insist on charging $5 per person for the tasting, which they say is waived only when you purchase. I am not a cheap-skate who cannot afford this, but this kind of disclaimer leaves a very bad taste even before you begin the experience. But since this was a celebratory birthday weekend for my boyfriend, we decided to go ahead with the unpleasantness of the lady who was serving. The wines are very good and we did end up buying one bottle, despite being pushed to buy another or we would have to 'pay $5 for the tasting fee'. She was arrogant, rude, and just generally incredibly unpleasant to deal with. We will definitely NEVER be back at this cellar door despite thinking their wines are pretty good. What a pity they couldn't employ decent staff at the cellar door. There were plenty of other wineries in the area that we visited who also do very good highly reputable and awarded wines and they were nowhere near as arrogant as the woman who served us at Lark Hill.

Whilst my experience was better than those of other reviewers, I still wouldn't call this place friendly - they really push you to buy, which I think is both unpleasant and counter-productive, I'd buy more if I had a nice experience! I wouldn't recommend coming here since there are several wineries in the area, I loved Little Bridge (further from Bungadore but on the road to Canberra); and I've heard good things about Lambert (near Lark Hill but a bit out of the way) and Affleck (near Little Bridge).

I had organised a pre booked winery tour out of Canberra for my friends hens weekend and the first winery we got taken to was Lark Hill. After walking into the small tasting area, we asked if some of the girls could use the bathroom. After the girls got back i informed the lady we had a booking, she looked at me and said oh is that today, i then went to get the printed out booking confirmation and she told me not bother, she then looked us up and down and said i didnt realise this was a hens party....(we were wearing hens sashes and pink headbands. We were all dressed nice but were wearing sandles and thongs as it was a sunny hot day and thought heels may of been a silly idea incase we were walking around a winery....(none of us had been on a winery tour before) She then insulted us for wearing thongs and sandles. By this stage we were all so shocked, we couldnt believe she was treating us like this. She then gave us samples of the wines without explaining anything about them besides this is a merlot, this is a chardonnay. The bride to be, had the end of a glass of someone elses who didnt like one of the wines and got yelled at for holding two glasses. She then threw a few more insults at us and then asked us if we wanted to buy any bottles, we all walked out and waited outside for our bus. We were booked in to be there for an hour and a half and she had finished with us in half an hour. None of us were drunk or anything as this was our first stop and we just could not believe how rude this lady was, especially since we were booked in and she had confirmed with the company i booked through only a few days before. Our bus driver was so shocked and felt so sorry for us he drove us to another winery in the area as we still had another hour till we could goto the next place we were booked at. He took us to the Lambert Vinyards and they were so lovely, there wine was amazing and we got details about all the wines, most of us walked out of this one buying a bottle it was that nice. I will be recommending Lambert to everyone i talk to and telling people to not even go near the Lark Hill winery!

I went to the cellar door for my birthday and was treated terribly. We were dressed well, have vineyard experience and were excited to chat with the owners, bought 5 bottles of wine, but were still treated terribly. We thought about going to the restaurant but were horrified by how the wife kept mentioning that we weren't buying enough, refused us a sample of their dessert wine, and shooed us out of the cellar door so that she could leave to feed her chooks. I was appalled. I spoke to other friends in the area, and apparently Lark Hill has this reputation of treating everyone the same: badly.
