I have had a long personal association with Gulgong. My father was born there and his father in turn was a Solicitor in Gulgong in the 1920-30's. I have also won both the Leonard Teale Memorial Spoken Word Award and the Henry Lawson Adult Literary Award held in the town's mid year Bush Poetry Competition. Hence the Henry Lawson Centre is a bit of a 'mecca' for me and my poetic cohorts. Whether you want to learn a little or a lot about our 'Iconic' National Treasure (Henry Lawson) is completely up to you. However long you stay in this wonderful museum you will be touched by the emotion of the man's turbulent and stormy life through the thoughtful and personal way the various momentoes/displays are organised. It's as if you have stepped right into a chapter of Henry's life and are walking with him through it. A fitting historical tribute to one of our great literary giants!

Top little Museum filled with Henry Lawson artifacts and pieces. The locals who staff it are knowledgeable and helpful. Great display, well presented, always filled with interesting pieces.

We loved sitting and listening to and watching the video of people reading Lawson's poetry while the story was enacted. Brought it alive and added meaning to the words.

The history of Henry's Mum and him. The Centre had more exhibits than I expected. The DVD presentation of some of Henry's works is well done.

I was amazed at the amount of information and memorabilia recorded and on display in this museum. I highly recommend it to anyone passing through Gulgong to STOP and visit the museum.

The Henry Lawson Centre gives an incredible insight into the man who wrote so many classic Australian stories. The building itself sits snugly in Mayne Street Gulgong adjacent to the Centennial Hotel. Henry provided entertainment for many and gave a unique insight into the life and times of the early Australian pioneers tinged with descriptive writing and humour.

Well worth a visit. We found out so much more about Henry Lawson then we thought we would. Helen was extremely knowledgable and an asset to the museum.

We were amazed that there was so much information. It is a small converted church, well set out with every stage of Lawson's life and work shown in detail. The caretaker was enthusiastic and very knowledgeable. We thoroughly enjoyed the visit and were sorry we didn't allow ourselves more time. You would need to visit more than once to fully appreciate this museum.
