Very interesting insight into a different way of life - on the droving route! Incredible that this sort of life still exists.

This is a delightful park to stop and walk around, admire the sculptures and enjoy the river and the bush. Not all that large but beautifully laid out with great storyboards to tell you of the history of the area. Lots of birdlife too. We really enjoyed it

We were really surprised to find this lovely walk carved out along the banks of the Murrumbidgee through a woodland of magnificent gums and stationed along the way the metal sculptures symbolising Aboriginal and farming life along the river. It was peaceful and a lovely way to experience Hay off the highway

Stretching from the Murray River at Moama to the outback and beyond Bourke, the long paddock follows the Cobb Highway (named after the Cobb and Co Stage Coach Company). Along the way there are 47 stop off points which display information panels which tell the story of days gone by when drovers would drive herds of cows and sheep hundreds of miles to market sometimes taking months to reach their destination. The purpose of the long paddock was to provide sufficient nutrition along the way so that the stock would arrive in good condition.Because animals cannot go for more than two days without water the long paddock followed the courses of the rivers and streams, the Darling, the Murray, the Lachlan and the Murrumbidgee being the largest. Stories and legends abound.Deniliquin on the Edward River became the natural congregating point for southbound stock. You can pick up an audio CD at Mathoura, Hay or Deniliquin Visitor Information Centres. Following the long paddock is a great way to add interest and focus to a road trip to the outback.
