Rafting the Jondachi was an incredibly thrilling experience. The river is very scenic, and it seems like you're hundreds of miles into the Amazon when it's actually only half an hour away from Tena. Excellent adventure and a great way to cool off and have fun.

I'm staying in Tena and booked this rafting experience through Riverpeople ( and I'm glad I did) they have an office in the town and are the real experts, they are a family run business that have been here for over 20 years, coming from the UK and Ireland. Their story is incredible and you will need to ask them it yourselves especially if you get Tim ( one of the sons as a guide). The walk in to the start point is incredible muddy and pretty steep so be prepared, but the river is well worth it. Safety standards are high with a safety kayaker accompanying the raft. Good rapids make for a fun time, especially the waffle maker, watch out for it.

Even though the river wasn't as high as it usually is, it was still fun and technical enough to make it exciting. The wash out after the rapids made it feel safe. I loved the waterfalls and lush growth on the rivers edges.

we booked it at Hostal Limoncocha. Sadly the water level was quite low, so on the first part of the river we always got stuck on the rocks standing out of the river. Later when the second river came in the water level was better too. I would recommend the river, but only if there is more water.

Having enjoyed the Futaleufu River and other big rivers in Chile, I decided to try Ecuador. My trip included rafting days on the Quijos, Jondachi, and Jatunacu Rivers in Ecuador. This review is of the Jondachi. See reviews of the Quijos and Jatunacu if you want to read about them.In order to access the Jondachi, Ecuador's greatest jungle Class 3-4 whitewater run, you need to start in Tena, Ecuador's gateway city to the jungle and jungle attractions. The rivers near Tena are rain fed and have warm water. The elevations are low, so it can be hot and humid and "ankle biters"--biting mosquitoes are a minor annoyance.Tena has lots of bars and restaurants and is a fun town to use as your base. The Jondachi has some of Ecuador's best whitewater. I used Small World Adventures as my guide; they have a great reputation in Ecuador and the USA. The rafting put-in for the Jondachi involves an ankle to knee-deep trek through mud on a very steep path. We had to use porters to carry the rafts and kayaks.Once we survived the hike in, the jungle rafting was truly incredible. Warm water, big waves, and incredible jungle scenery. Having rafted in several countries and continents, I rate the Jondachi as a no-miss incredible run.Don't miss out on Ecuador's whitewater; it's spectacular.
