We stopped by to see the smallest church in Iceland. The locals still use it and there were quite a few tourist who came to see it as well

This tiny turf-and-wood structure is considered one of Iceland's historical treasures. It is still in use. Not a great deal to see, but the setting is impressive, it does not get a lot of traffic, and it is five minutes from Varmahlid if you are staying there or passing through. Definitely worth a few photos, and there is a good description of its history on site.

Старая церковь, построенная по древней исландской технологии. Стену очень толстые и теплые, как раз на исландскую погоду рассчитано. Вокруг очень аккуратное кладбище, могилки очень старые, но ухоженные. Внутрь церкви не пошли, а вокруг погуляли - рекомендую.

Очень маленькая и старая исландская церковь с крышей из травы. Просто увидели указатель на достопримечательность, свернули с дороги и через пару минут у цели. Обошли вокруг, рядом много очень старых могил. Вроде как можно войти внутрь, но мы не пробовали, просто прогулялись снаружи.

Die bäuerliche Torf/Grassoden-Architektur auf Islandhat nicht nur malerische Gehöfte, sondern auch Kirchenhervorgebracht, von denen noch einige wenige erhalten sind.Die von Viðimýri bei Varmahlið ist nicht nur besonders schön, sie ist auchdie einzige ihrer Art, die nicht zum Museum geworden ist, sondern bis heute als Pfarrkirche genutzt wird.Freilich, der malerische hölzerne Lettner, der früher dieReichen vom gewöhnlichen Bauernvolk trennte, hat heutenur noch dekorative Bedeutung.Zusammen mit den übrigen erhaltenen Torfkirchen undden Torf-Gehöften steht die Viðimýrikirkja auf derisländischen Tentativliste des UNESCO Weltkulturerbes.Sie ist es wahrlich wert, offiziell ins Welterbe aufgenommenzu werden!

Á chegada o que foi mais interessante foi ver um gato a dormir onde o seu dono está no descanso eterno. Depois a igreja é espetacular por dentro, nada daquilo a que estamos habituados. É pequena e bonita

Petite église datant de 1834, toute en bois avec un côté réservé aux hommes, un autre aux femmes, des places pour les notables dans le choeur et dans des stèles spéciales plus décorées. Jolie chaire en bois peint. Tous les contreforts extérieurs sont en tourbe herbeuse, ainsi que le toit. L'ensemble fait un peu maison de poupée mais cela mérite un petit détour
