We have a small group from Canada that has visited Canadian Battlefield sites in Europe and now for the first time we are visiting Italy and following the footsteps of our WW2 soldiers. The Abbey stands high above the cemetery as if on perpetual guard. As always the ages are so young and the grounds are well kept. We hired a local guide to take us around and we visited the cemetery both in the daytime and at night .A different experience at night offering an opportunity of taking a picture of the Cross of Sacrifice which is beautiful against the night darkness.

We are ex military Canadians and were keen to pay our respects to the fallen soldiers after visiting Monte Cassino MonasteryCemetery address: Via S. Angelo 03043 Cassino (FR) Lazio.Hard to find without GPS coordinates. GPS Co-ordinates: Latitude 41.477555, Longitude: 13.82714855 Canadian soldiers rest below the Monte Cassino Monastery. We signed the Cassino War Cemetery guest book and we were amazed at how many other Canadians make the quest to pay their respects. We visited every Canadian's marker. Lots of these graves have little provincial flags and family mementos... They have not been forgotten.

Very neat and memorable cemetery, we have many buried there from WW2, which we visit regularly. Very well manicured and great view of the Monte Cassino Abbey. Very easy to get to and lots of parking

The rows and rows of graves certainly hit a sorrowful tone as you read how young some lost their lives. Also quite striking as the Abbey above looks over them now. Well kept area, and lovely to see visitors bring small flags and poppies to leave on the Kiwi headstones.

An historical must see with great views of the city, surrounding mountains and the abbey. Hard to find so ask for directions.

We visited the Commonwealth Cemetery after visiting Montecassino and the Polish cemetery. We took the train from Rome which was about an hour ride. We walked from the train station to the Commonwealth cemetery which took us about 30 minutes. We were so pleased that we took the time to go to this site. Having read much of the history of the battles that occurred here, we had a deeper understanding of the many young men who gave their lives in their attempt to end World War II. Words cannot describe the emotions we experience visiting the cemeteries. All of these soldiers fought for their battles before we were both born, but we felt connected to them through this visit. My husband and I were the only people visiting and this made it very special for us. If you have the time, try to spend some time here. It is a peaceful setting and a beautiful tribute to the soldiers who insured our freedom.

We went to pay homage to the soldiers. There are five Waorld War II cemeteries around Cassino. The Commonwealth, the American, the German, the Italian, and the Polish. The Polish one is on the way up the hill of Monte Cassino.I titled these visits sad, because it is. As I read the names, all strangers to me, all children to me, 18, 19, 21. I am not ashamed to say I cried on each visit. I had been to all five, and I will never go again, too painful, even though I know not one of the soldiers.I hate war.

Very minimal beautiful place. Does honor to all the young people who gave their life defending Italy. Be aware of thieves in the parking lot. They tend to break into cars. So try not to leave the car out of sight!!!

This is not the best kept cemetery we have visited this 70th anniversary year - but thought provoking nevertheless. Reading the inscriptions on the stones brought tears to our eyes - so many thousands of families blighted by the loss of a loved one....or two.I lost an uncle 3 weeks before the war ended, over Hamburg. Just how much our family has mourned his loss .. he would be 95 now!

On October 09, 2014 we hired a private driver, Francesco Di Sarno, Autoservizi DS, to take us from the port of Naples to Cassino War Cemetery, a distance of approximately one hour from the port. We had arrived on Holland America Noordam. The Battle of Cassino saw some of the fiercest fighting - there are 3982 Commonwealth graves, which include 855 Canadians. There are also fifteen foot slabs of green marble which have inscribed the names of unknown soldiers - 192 names were of Canadians. I had researched through the Commonwealth War Graves Commission website and found that 20 Islanders were buried there as well as one name of an unknown soldier from PEI is inscribed on marble slab # 14. We brought Canadian and provincial flags to place at the front of these graves. I will never forget this experience and anyone that can go there will be humbled by the sacrifice of human life given for their country that allows us to live in peace today.Karen, Prince Edward Island, Canada

As someone else has already said the cemetery, as with all the CWGC cemeteries I have seen, is an oasis of calm, and always very moving. They don't really need rating, but I have given it 5 stars. I also wanted to give a sad warning. When we were there a party of New Zealanders had there car broken into; it must be any easy target. So don't be put off visiting, just be vigilant.

I went to visit the grave of my granddad. I went with my mum and dad, my husband, our grandson and other family members. The cemetery is beautifully maintained. It was the first time that we had been to the grave and it was lovely to see that his final resting place and the resting places of all of the others lost during the war are maintained with the dignity that they deserve. The cemetery is wheelchair accessible and has designated disabled parking.

It is worth visiting, a very moving experience, the respect and care that is taken to care for the lying place of so many soldiers that died so far away from home is very humbling.

It seems strange 'rating' this place and somehow completely inappropriate - I mean no disrespect in so doing. I had wanted to see it - my father fought at Cassino and survived but never spoke about it. Seeing the average age of those who did not make it was sobering - and the numbers of those 'known unto God' deeply moving. The site is beautifully kept, quiet and peaceful. I'm glad to have visited.

I have been wanting to visit this war cemetery all my life. My grandfather died fighting for England in Feb 1944 & to actually sit next to his head stone was a massive bucket list tick for me. I was so surprised as to how peaceful this place is & immaculately kept. I was so proud to stand in this field full of legends that spirits live on. These men where Hero's & i couldn't of been more honoured to sit & take it all in.... All the way from Australia. It's a must see. I loved it!
