..it worths a visit of half day or more. The historical part (intra muros) is beautiful, and walking on the walls is the best part if the weather is fine. The city has lot to offer, don't consider it just the cousin of Mont St Michel!!

done it many times and i always find a different perspective. I don't care if it's windy, raining, grey and miserable there is just something uplifting about touring a fortified city via it's ramparts

Enjoy the restaurants, the stores and the old streets and buildings within the walls of St-Malo. You will walk a lot but that's good for you after all that driving.

Do take the time to walk along the city walls . They offer great views of the inner and outer harbours plus the little islands located just offshore .

Take the walk round the ramparts and absorb the atmosphere ,beware high tides and stormy weather on the ramparts by north wall ,as the sea comes over, its a great way to spend an hour or two as you can descend into the shops bars and restaurants for a pickme up,a very nice place to visit.

A rapid 80 minute ferry voyage either way made this day trip very attractive. There's plenty to do in Saint Malo and there's a pleasant stretch of beach with a sea bathing pool available for those keen on a swim. A very enjoyable day out!

We began the morning braving the waves crashing on the wall, trying to time our walk between the waves. We walked all the way around the old city on the ramparts stopping to eat at the creperie on the way. By the time afternoon came the tide was out, and we walked onto the beach and out to the islands for a most beautiful view looking back towards the town and sea wall. In the morning those Islands had been surrounded by water! Lots of fun and great photos!

Nothing better than rounding off your visit by a walk around the ramparts, great views over the bay and Dinard as well as up to harve de Roteneuf. Well worth starting off near the castle and doing the whole thing- should take around 30 minutes

Stayed at St Malo during November/December 2014. Beautiful small seaside town with amazing architechture. We were lucky enough to stay right near the promenade and could walk into the walled town of St Malo every day. Lots of different shops there and many restaurants and cafes to suit all budgets. A great way to unwind after a week of hectic sightseeing in Paris.Good supermarkets and other interesting shops available for unique gifts.

Wonderful walk for both day and night with someone you love. Grab a jambon buerre and some wine - find a quiet place to sit and enjoy the people watching. It is beautiful when lit up at night and great views of the Channel during the day.

Only spent a day here on a day trip from Jersey and to be honest that was probably enough to see the majority of the town but we are so glad that we made the journey. The walls are accessible and provide outstanding views of the coastline, beaches etc on the one side and the town on the other. I would imagine they get very busy at the height of Summer. Walking the walls gives you a great aspect of the town itself and there are numerous entrances and exits if something takes your fancy for closer inspection. It is a town full of delights and "les remparts" allow you to view these on all sides.

The old city of Saint Malo is a bit of an amalgam of historic centre and bustling modern city. But for me it lacked the character and historic ambience of Dinan. The walls around the old city were completely reconstructed, and there are fabulous views across the beach and out to sea from the extensive ramparts. Sitting here eating some lunch is a wonderful way to spend an hour, but to my mind is not sufficient to make a visit to the town anything more than a side trip as part of a longer journey.A bus connects Saint Malo with Dinan, and it's the latter I'd most recommend visiting for a taste of Northern coastal France.

I allowed myself a lot of time to stroll the ramparts, coming down when something took my fancy and it was well, worth it. Fabulous views out across the ocean and over the rooftops of the old town, school groups enjoying the beach, locals playing boules. Lots of history, fabulous restaurants close. Y, definitely try the creperie on the rampartWell worth the time

Having had visited here many times on a day trip from Jersey, it can become quite boring as 1st or 2nd time its interesting but then nothing really changes. Found not worthwhile buying a lot now since the introduction of the euro goods are the same if not dearer than uk/Jersey and to be honest much the same on offer. However someone visiting for the 1st time its very interesting!Visiting a few days before Christmas I expected a lot more to be going on.

Lovely old town! We visited in May when the crowds visiting Mont St.Michel are substantial, so it is good to go to St.Malo in the morning and then drive to Mont St.Michel in the afternoon: it will be more parking available closer to the famous Abbey. This is exactly what we have done and it worked really well. The only problem was that St.Malo is so incredibly beautiful that we did not want to leave. The walk on the medieval walls was delightful with breathtaking open sea views, boats, seagulls... You can also walk on the beach at low tide up to the Fort National, a fort on a tidal island not far from the city walls. During WWII, the old walled port city was almost completely destroyed and then wonderfully restored. St.Malo was not too crowded in May; there is a huge parking lot and parking for a very reasonable rate did not present any problems. Good restaurants as well!It definitely deserves a visit if you are in the area: you will keep this amazing city in your memories.
