The ruins from Targoviste are a good place to visit, to find out more about the history. There is a zoo situated nearby. There is no fee for the entrance.

The Old a Court ruins are well worth a visit, together with Dracula's Chindia Tower. Pity that the Targoviste and Dambovita officials do not work harder to promote the Court where Dracula indeed ruled and fought in the Battle of Targoviste against the Turks. It is proof of a troubled past of Valachian rulers who stood against the Turks and paid with their life.Situated in the nicest part of Targoviste, in the Chindia park, the Old Court is a nice addition to Chindia Tower and Petru Cercel's a Church, together with the printing museum.

Old Court's or Royal Court's is dated from 15-th century. The begining was in the times of kings Mircea cel Batrin and Vlad Tepes. Then gardens and a water pipe made of wood for the inside fountains were added. Also some military fortifications. The Court was burned out in the war in 18-th Century. Only the church was rebuit and in 19-th Century a restauration was made and the Chindia Tower was built. The Chindia Tower is the main attraction here with his 122 steps to the top. The panorama from the tower is beautiful. The church is an impressive building made of red brick. This kind of brick is dominant in the whole Court. We spent two hours in the court and we enjoyed every minute.

Though it passed more than 600 hundred years form its first mention in documents, Targoviste is still a must for the a "hungry" Traveller for history. Newly restored I think that is a must to be visited as being not that far from Bucharest.

The Old Court's Ruins are situated near the city center and is a fantastic place to discover the history of this city, who was the capital of Wallachia. It's a wonderful place to come if you're in Bucharest. The entrance fee is 10 lei (around 2.5 Euros) and if you're a student the price is 4.5 lei (around 1 Euro). The ruins are very well presented and preserved, the Old Court church is very beautiful, and the Chindiei Tower is located inside the Old Court.

Targoviste/Tirgoviste"s main attraction is the Chindia Tower and surrounding ruins. SUPER! I do not know if this tower has withstood time or has had some help being remodeled. But with all the frequent earthquakes over hundreds of years it amazes me that it proudly stands. There are many, many surrounding ruins. It is a shame Romania does not have the money for restoring all this. Or even another country stepping in to help.It looks to me that the government is doing some measures to prevent further decay!Oh... but what I would give to carefully poke and look on the sidelines at all these bricks in various stages of being stacked! An interesting fact: Vlad Tepes wanted Targoviste to be his capital city rather than Bucharesti.
