Ness wood is about five miles on the East side of the city heading towards . There are some great walks anytime of the year. Not really that wheelchair friendly. there are some bridges and steps to negotiate. There are waterfalls and streams . It is an ancient woodland plent of fauna and flora. Take your boots.

a little out of the town but well worth a visit. Best way to tire the kids out with a bit of exercise. Lovely in the winter but spectacular throughout the year.

Walk through Ness Wood and adjacent Ervey Wood along Burntollet river will take a brisk 75 mins. Most beautiful in summer and autumn as mainly deciduous trees. Pathways are dirt/gravel track and parts are very muddy in wet weather. Ness walk on it's own is a circuit of 35 mins brisk walking. Walk can incorporate section of steep wooden steps for the more energetic. Quite spectacular small waterfall during river spate can be viewed along higher section of walk.

This is a wonderful retreat in a busy life. A gentle walk, peace and quiet apart from birdsong. Do it and experience it for yourself!

What a stunning location and the history that goes with it (Shane's leap) make this a brilliant day out. This place has babbling streams and gushing rivers, a waterfall, still ponds and an excellent walkway around the park. The resource centre is immaculate as are the toilets. Both fit perfectly into the natural surroundings. There are picnic tables dotted around the woods which are perfect for stopping to take in the views. All this at no charge! Well done to the staff for keeping it in such good condition. We saw rabbits and trout jumping which the children still talk about.

This place is amazing. the wildlife and views of the surronding landscape are just out of this world. It used to two woods but now joined in the centre by a nice little cottage style visitors centre open everyday during the summer. The onsite NIEA staff are friendly and helpful and have done wonders making the place a beauty for everyone to enjoy. A great place to bring a picnic and walk the pup, well worth a visit!!

Had a lovely walk around the new upgraded paths and up to the water fall today. wonderful place to take children and is wheelchair accessible. the down side to it is the lower car park where you would access the upgrade pathways is closed from 18.30 each evening. Hopefully some sensible person will see the benefit of extending opening times over the summer months at least to 21.00

visit the ness woods often, very good little visitors centre, love it since the y upgraded the paths and love the meadows, and walk round ponds and out along the river, whats not to like.

We had a very nice walk on the path to the waterfall. Although it is the tallest waterfall in Northern Ireland, it was not very tall or impressive, but we enjoyed our walk and had a nice, relaxing day enjoying the scenery.

i love the peacefullness here! even when the carpark is full you feel like you are in your own wee world but it is always reassuring that the rangers are always on patrol so you feel safe if you are on your own! great for time on your own/ family nature trail/ walking the dog! well signsposted, the only place in the local countryside with toilet facilities, good parking, adequate picnic tables that is suitable for all ages, dogwalking and education/information rolled into one!

This is a really lovely walk, the waterfalls are stunning, the walk does get quite steep to see the waterfall, the dog loved it!

is a care free walk and lovely water falls, ideal for a picnic and kids can run free although they need to be supervised as there could be dangerous places they should not enter

At end of a weekend in Derry, we were looking for a good hour-long walk. After 5 minutes drive through some minor roads, you come to a car park. Keep driving, though, to the cottage / visitor centre. No tea/coffee... Consider bringing something to drink. After an easy work between some ponds, you're into forest land, with easy routes, or some moderate walking up some steps. We visited early Spring ... But I expect each season looks beautiful.Bring a camera for some good shots, and keep eyes open for the signs, so you don't take a detour. And bring a coat if any chance of rain.A great walk.
