dalton confederate cemetery

A Civil War buff would like this. The cemetery is a well-kept plot of land that is fenced in the middle of a much larger cemetery. These may have been the original graves that started this cemetery. The four unknown Union soldiers are off by themselves. The four known Confederates are marked and sprinkled amongst the rest of the unknown marked graves. I'm glad I came.

Nearly all of the deceased are unknown. The memorials are appropriate. The plot is a small part of a huge cemetery.

The confederate cemetary is within the larger West Hill cemetary in Dalton,Ga. It is well kept and maintained. It has 421 graves. They used to be unkown up till about 1998 when local historians found documents with details of the graveyard. Any civil war buff needs to come here. You may have an ancestor buried here if he was from Arkansas,Missouri or Kentucky and yes, Georgia. Worth the trip.:)
