I visited the park last weekend wasnt a planned stop just saw the sign for the park while driving on 75. It was well worth the stop! I wasnt expecting to see such a wonder site! Will have to go back!

This is a great state park. We love the trails next to the falls. The trails are clean, safe and have access to the water views. Picnics on the rocks are a wonderful weekend treat. There's a small hot dog restaurant close by that has a huge variety of toppings. The convenience store is not very clean, but we didn't go for the shopping. The camp grounds are some our favorite in the state. Very clean bathrooms.

A trip to High Falls State Park, is always nice, but the hiking trails are especially beautiful in the fall. The people in charge of the park are always helpful and friendly. If you visit on a week-end when the historians are there, you can learn and appreciate the history of the falls.

This was our third trip camping at High Falls and our second time to stay in a yurt. The yurts are awesome! Easily sleeps six, has a working heater (even in sub-freezing weather) and electricity. No cooking facilities, but we brought a cooler, camp stove and Mr. Coffee. The bath facilities are nearby. The porch on the yurt has a nice view of the lake. There are many nice trails with views nearby. No pets allowed. Great weekend trip from Atlanta.

This park has over 4.5 miles of hiking trails in addition to a playground, picnic area, water activities and several campgrounds. There are even yurts available to rent. We took the 1.5 mile Falls Trail which is a loop. What I loved was that you can see the falls right at the beginning of the trail so if people get tired, they can turn back. The trail isn't smooth and there were a few steep steps to take, but that made it interesting. Also, there were red markers on the trees to help you stay on the trail. The park ranger warned us of a spot where people accidentally get off the trail. Sure enough we did it too, but realized our mistake quickly when we didn't see the red markers. Beautiful!

The falls were beautiful. The trail was somewhat steep but the falls were about 100 feet into the trail so it was very doable with our 4 year old. We did not walk the entire trail but we're able to see exactly what we went to see. The man at the park enter able was very helpful and suggested two other gems to visit and they were both great. Very friendly.

The waterfalls here are great but are not the center of focus for the park. Emphasis seems to be on camping and boating. Trails in the area of the falls are in very poor condition. Late fall is not the season to see a full running waterfall unless there have been unusually heavy rains in the watershed. I wish the state would put a little more effort into the falls experience.

Bottom line, the waterfalls and trail down to the bottom of the falls are worth a visit. The park itself is not that great in my view, but the falls are worth it. Note, was told they are going to work on the dam, so the water levels will be way down, so check with the park if you are going soon to see if there is any water running over the dam (wasn't today) and down the falls.

I have always liked coming here to see the ducks. Fishing off the pier is cool too. The picnic areas, and the pool are a nice way to enjoy the family. There are also occasional play grounds for young children. Very pretty time in nature.

We visited on labor day and were very disappointed with the condition of the park and the way it is managed. The park looks tired and poorly maintained overall. It has been many years since we visited and were sad to see it has gone downhill since that time. There are many small / wild trees that have been allowed to grow between the protective railing fence and the falls which block the view of the water from much of the picnic area. Everything looks more overgrown that it should. The abundance of "warning signs" instructing people to stay away from the water and the falls also take away from the park visually. We were also shocked that the park management allows groups using the pavilions to play loud hip hop music that can be heard over one hundred feet from the pavilion. It was even more disturbing that many of the lyrics in the songs contain profanity that you wouldn't hear on cable television. Isn't this supposed to be a family oriented park? Overall I would not recommend this park for a day trip or camping, especially for families, stay on the interstate and head up to Red Top Mountain near Atlanta or continue on further North to a better managed park.

Overall, a disappointing stay. We had initially reserved a yurt for two nights but ended up checking out after the first night. The park staff were very nice and refunded the 2nd night even though we said it wasn't necessary as it was our choice to leave early. Yurt was basic but more than adequate. Park was uncrowded, restrooms clean. Not much water coming over the falls.Biggest disappointment was that we couldn't access the water. There was a public pool that was closed the day we were there Literally dozens of danger and do not signs all along the falls trail. Sign blight is the best way to describe it. It was obvious that many ignore them anyway and there was lots of litter including discarded clothes. Also there is a sewage discharge from the park just above the falls.

This is one place that all the local people in Middle Ga seems to just forget how beautiful it is to take your friends and family for a day or weekend visit. Great waterfalls photos to take and fishing camping and kayaking is always a good way to pass the time.

High Falls State Park is a great place to stop just 5 minutes off 75 north of Macon. Parking is on the left, cross the road to the trail to the falls. An easy walk down the trail gives you several vantage points to observe the falls. Absolutely beautiful. The campground looked very nice too. As a side trip, continue up the road for a few miles and you will come across Dauset Trails. It is a non-profit animal sanctuary that is a great place to see animals from panthers to bison as well as a reptile exhibit. Best of all it is free. Great spot to bring kids. Just 5 more minutes up the road you come to Indian Springs State Park. Another great place to visit. You can get water from the flowing spring that the native Americans in the area believed to have healing powers.
