Took a sail with Capt. Jim and his boat. Jim is a really nice guy, and a good sailor. He knows the area very well and also the surrounding islands. While all that is good, there is also the boat to consider. The boat needs some serious serious TLC. Heaven help you if you need to spend any amount of time below deck. This includes the bathroom which is disgusting. The exterior of the boat has not been kept up very well either. Of course, all of this brings up the question of safety of the vessel and of the rigging and hardware.So I would not use this service again until such time as the boat is greatly cleaned up and as well since this is a business where safety is paramount I think the captain should seek some sort of inspection to certify that his boat and rigging is seaworthy. Sharing that with customers would be good for business.

Truly a great experience! Captain Jim is truly a professional and know his ship. We enjoyed a great 8 hours trek with a nice lunch on Middle Bass Island was the perfect get away for our family. Captain Jim encouraged participation in the sailing process....even allowing both my son and I to have some time at the helm. I would recommend the Erie Spirit and her Captain to anyone looking for a great way to spend the day on the lake! Positives - With the option of an all day cruse or a shorter sunset cruise what more could you ask for?Negatives - This is a 33ft boat, if you get sea sick be sure take your Dramamine

My husband, 13 year-old daughter and I took an 8 hour trip to Put In Bay aboard Capt Jim's boat. It was our first time sailing and we loved it! My husband and daughter were able to actually steer the boat and Capt Jim made them feel so capable! I chose to sit, relax, and take pics. Our GPS didnt get us to his boat on time but Capt Jim politely gave us correct directions over the phone. Even though we arrived a several minutes late, Capt Jim was very pleasant. He has been sailing for years and answered all of our many questions. The sail, the captain, and the price were all awesome! We will definitely take another boat ride with Capt Jim again and recommend him to our friends!

We arrived 15 minutes early of the proposed time to meet at the marina. Captain Jim was pulling out to leave but noticed us and turned around. He walked over to us and gruffly explained he would be one hour late for his date. He was under the impression that we were to have been there an hour earlier. We apologized knowing it was not our error hoping to salvage the trip.He seemed to be off balance. Age? Alcohol? Cant say for certain but we did not feel comfortable at all. We decided to get back in the car and drive the two hours home. Thanks for ruining my birthday surprise Captain Jim! I agree with the other negative post. The positive comments appear to be fictitious. You have been warned...

We booked Captain Jim, for our anniversary. He was there, on time, and very good with prior communications. Once we completed the paperwork, and safety drill, off we floated, towards Kelly's Island. He is very knowledgeable, informative, and full of stories, of the lake. Well worth the time and effort.We had some disability issues that we thought, might be not accomodated. But Jim, saw no obstacles, and helped us, wherever possible.We shall book again, and next time for longer. It is an unique experience.Jaime and Claudia

If you are looking for a great way to spend some time with a person you truly care about, and looking to relax at the same time. You should definitely call Capt Jim, for his sail boat tours. We took a 3 hour sailboat tour and it was perfect! He is very knowledgeable, and if you want to participate you can, but you can also just lay there and relax while you are sailing through Lake Erie! We will definitely be calling Capt Jim the next time we go to Marblehead!!Thank you again Capt Jim.

Captain Jim is great. The boat was lovely. Jim has been sailing Lake Erie for around 30 years and he knows his way around. The price for three hours was $130. Great value! I would go again in a second.

My husband and I went on a three hour sunset cruise for our anniversary today. Jim, the captain, was very friendly, knowledgeable, and laid back. We enjoyed driving the boat and seeing the wonderful view. Got lots of great pictures as well. Highly recommended, especially for the price! Would definitely do again.

If you would like to sail Lake Erie with Ernest Hemingway, Captain Jim is your man. We had a wonderful time on our lovely cruise. If there is something special you have in mind, just ask him and if it's possible he will do it for you. The other reviews are correct - this is not a 5 star yacht, but if safe and enjoyable sail boating is what you are after with someone who is happy to share his knowledge of sailing if you so desire, this is the real deal. And you won't find a better deal for the money either.

This so called captain was a no show. The morning of he never answered his phone after multiple calls. We eventually found the marina and his boat and he was no where to be found. The boat is an absolute dump!!!! We drove an hour and a half to go go on our tour and this guy completely screwed us over. DO NOT USE THIS SERVICE!!!! He probably wrote these other reviews himself!!!! This is a scam!!!

Captain Jim is great. He let us all steer the sailboat, and the kids loved sitting up front! He is great company and knowledgeable of the area. I would recommend to anyone!! Thanks Captain Jim!!

Went for a daytime and sunset cruises. Got a chance sail the boat and raise and lower the sails. Felt very safe. Great for teens. Very friendly and knowledgable about the lake and islands. Very accommodating.
