Kamiak butte is about 30 min of driving from pullman and is a beautiful perfect place for walking and sight seeing. It took us about 2 hours of walking, and I have to mention that it was pretty easy! At the base there are barbeque facilities as well as playground for children.

Kamiak Butte is located just a short drive from Pullman and Moscow. Regardless of how you arrive, the butte is an amazing place to see the beautiful Palouse region of Washington. The hike is very easy and manageable, although the trails are not handicapped accessible. There are numerous places to stop and sightsee or eat a meal. Parking is adequate and you can also rent camping space at the base of the hill. We did not see much wildlife, although I have been told there are many animals in the area.

This place has everything for a simple camping trip. There aren't many spots so make sure you try to time your dates for less busy times. There are also about 5 miles worth of trails and some gorgeous views! For those living in Pullman, it is the perfect place to go for a little bit different atmosphere to the wheat fields as it is wooded. There is a great little playground for the kids and an extensive day use area for picnics and family gatherings. I was surprised to learn that there is an ampitheatre in the park for the occasional show or presentation. There is running water and bathrooms in the park, but no showers. The biggest down side is that from late May to early September or October, there are no open fires permitted as the area is just too dry and the risk of a wildfire too great. Briquettes and Propane are allowed though so cooking isn't a problem, just no fire to sit around at night.

A great hike in any season... Especially fun in the winter.... If you like cold /snowy weather. A steep path and a comfortable but longer path to the high point are available.

A lovely hike! I hiked the primitive trail and completed the entire loop in less than 2.5 hours. Very lovely. Good for family hike.

I've been hiking Kamiak since 1968. A nice walk in the woods on a wide trail (fire access road) and then when you reach the ridge a hike along the ridge to the peak. The loop trail comes down through the woods back to the parking lot. Worth doing in almost any weather or time of year.

Kamiak Butte is a great park for families. We have 3 young children (aged 6,5, and 3) and they have been able to make it to the top (with some assistance here and there) many times over the past 2 years. There's a short trail and a long trail to get to the top. We've only attempted the short one as a family. There is a great park at the base which we of course stop and play at.

Took my son to get settled at WSU and while exploring the region, enjoyed a visit to Kamiak Butte. Very easy to get to from Pullman (just north a bit, on the way to the town of Palouse), it's an oasis of sorts. Pines cover the butte, and a brisk but accessible 1/2 mile walk up allows for a lovely vantage point over the rolling fields below. The complete walk/hike takes one on a 3.5 mile loop ~ a fantastic way to spend a couple of hours. At the parking area, the grassy field with picnic tables and playground are inviting as well. So glad I ventured here & looking forward to taking another hike when I visit my son later in the fall.

This is a wonderful day hike any time of year. Beautiful views, and at the right time of year there are tons of wildflowers. If you are (super) lucky you may even get to see a Rubber Boa tucked into the side of the trail trying to look like a tree root! Don't worry they are harmless and RARE.*my review says i took this hike in June, but I have done this hike during every month of the year- and it is always wonderful.

Wonderful to discover a natural vantage point for looking around the landscape. The picnic and play area seemed quite nice and well-maintained. The trail to the top was well marked and easy to navigate. (It would be challenging for special needs visitors or those with health issues.) I think kids would love this outing and we didn't see any dangerous drop offs to worry about. We didn't have time to take the whole loop trail, though. The trees were just leafing out but some wild flowers were in bloom. The evergreen trees are plentiful and inspiring. Wear or take a light jacket because the wind can be stiff at the crest.

this is a neat and easy hike located in the middle of a wheat field. its a great day trip and fun for a family. there is a pic nic area at the base of the butte, and a little play area too. its not far from pullman and one of the few things worth doing.

We came to the Palouse from Colorado and New Mexico. We miss the big pine trees. We were thrilled to find Kamiak Butte. You can feel the summer temperature drop when you round the corner and find yourself surrounded by beautiful pine trees. There is hiking, a playground, grass for the kids to play in. One of my very favorite places to go and sit quietly. Definitely worth the trip.

Just about the only place to hike in the area and not to much of a strain to get to the top where you are rewarded with the areas best views.

A very quiet out of the way County park. The view from on top is spectacular you can see for miles. Used to cost $2 now free but there is a place for donations and they want you to put a piece of paper on you dash so they know if some one is lost on the butte or hurt. Parts of the park are quite rugged. The trail to the top is an easy one and takes but 15 to 20 minutes. The view is just amazing and worthwhile. A favorite place for decades. I first visited probably in about 1965. The road is better now and so are picnic and restrooms facilities.

Being the second tallest hill of the Palouse region of southeastern Washington, it's perfect for viewing, taking photos, with wild flowers and pine forests on the north side. The hiking trail is easy going clockwise, taking about 1.5 hour.
