The old courthouse is where you should stop before exploring Suffolk and vicinity. They have a wealth of well-organized information on attractions in the local area on display. There is a display of historical artifacts and photographs and examples of local wildlife. There is even a small gift shop. There are clean rest rooms and a staff ready to assist you.

They know of everything to do in the state of Virginia and have all the resources too. The staff is friendly and very cute. Stuffed black bear greats you at the door and within walking distance of the Hilton.

The Suffolk VA Visitor Center has a friendly and knowledgable staff. They are well equipped to offer advice regarding the Suffolk area as well as other VA locations. While the staff is the primary asset, they also have a complete library of VA brochures for event and trip planning.In October, I attended a Lake Drummond canoe trip sponsored by the Visitor Center and learned that they offer nature, history and other excursions. My 4 hour Lake Drummond/Dismal Swamp canoe trip was so great, I asked to be put their mailing list for future events. The staff is helpful in person and by phone. The Center is located at the corner of N. Main and W. Constance in the former courthouse. The renovated building is bright, clean, and has displays of area habitat and history.

The Suffolk Visitor Center, located in the historical Suffolk Courthouse, is full of information about the local area as well as the entire state. The building is easily accessible and the staff is friendly and eager to help. I like the displays about the Great Dismal Swamp National Wildlife Refuge and other featured Suffolk events, such as Peanut Fest, the Swamp Roar Motorcycle Ride, old car shows, days featuring downtown restaurants, and many festivals showcasing local food. There is lots of information about the extensive local history and the peanut industry. A small shop area offers books and keepsakes. It is a beautifully restored building, with lots of information and people happy to welcome visitors to the area
