A real Old West Ghost Town. Saloon, jail, homes, all kept as 200 year ago while the gold-rush not as fancy as on Hollywood movies, provides cool education and leisure either in winter on cross-country skis or walking in summer.

Interesting place but creepy, it give me goosebumps. My husband's more in historical side of the place, I'm the typical housewife that don't appreciate the history of the place.

Interesting to see if you are driving by, but very small. Not much to see and well explored by tourists.

We enjoyed our visit to this Ghost Town. I will say that we went during the golden season of the aspen trees so it was gorgeous views in every direction. Even if the trees aren't golden, I would recommend taking the time to see Ashcroft Ghost Town. This is a ghost town that continued to survive beyond the silver mining boom. It has such an interesting history of boom town, resort, training area, and was featured in the TV show "Sgt. Preston of the Yukon". The fee is only $3 to see this area.

This is a quick drive from town, on a paved road. There is a small entrance fee. College students are there in the summer as part of their internships, and available to answer questions. There is a walking path to the abandoned buildings, and sandals were fine for walking along the path. There is signage with historical information throughout. If you are passing by, it's worth visiting.

I ended up visiting Ashcroft over Labor Day weekend. I wouldn't recommend taking a trip out to Aspen to see this alone since it only takes about 30 minutes at most to walk through (there's no more than 10 buildings there). The town itself isn't in Aspen and takes about 30 minutes to drive out to from the main road. It's cool to read about the history of the area and buildings though and see the remains that are still standing today. It might be worth taking a guided tour to gain additional insight of the area (if they offer it).

GREAT restoration on this old ghost town. The best part was the drive as it is very scenic. We also did not have to hike a long distance to view. A few small buildings with plaques talk about the early life in the Colorado Metal Boom era. It is a great place to go have a picnic with tables along the stream. It rained on us while we were visiting and pretty much had the entire place to ourselves. We placed our picnic blanket inside the old saloon and ate while the storm passed.

We decided to take the picturesque drive to Ashcroft on a misty afternoon. A small fee ($3/person) gets you in to walk around amongst the abandoned town site and the buildings. There is a walking path that makes it easy. Some of the buildings have been partially restored to the point where it is safe to step inside. My favorite was the two story "hotel". It looked like something out of an old western movie. I could just imagine visitors staying in that drafty place. Note...the first floor of the hotel is ok to walk on, but don't try to go upstairs as the upper floor is not safe. You can get through the whole town in an hour. Take a jacket as the weather can vary considerably in a short time. Also take a camera.

Thanks for your review. Were you able to take a tour from one of our docents on site? They are there daily from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. and can really enrich the experience.

This is an incredible drive between Aspen and Snowmass. The old buildings are amazing along with the history. Since the preservation takes money, the $3 admission is worth it. I will visit again someday.

Really pretty location, though where isn't in aspen. The drive out to Ashcroft was pretty. I just expected there to be more to it. There were a few log cabin buildings with not much in most of them. It was only $3 each to go so it was probably worth going to see the sights and pass the time. Just don't expect like an exciting ghost town.

I am dating myself but this is where they filmed St Preston of the Yukon in the 50'S. I love to take friends here. Go all the way up the trail to see the old hotel and don't forget to checkout the saloon.
