We have added this new hike to our local ADK hiking several times since it was added to our local outings. It has an easy lower hike, and a longer hike up the hill to a historic pond created by Ice Age movement. And at the end, you can explore some creative historic areas that collected entertainment groups from the traveling vaudeville groups in the 30’s. Plus Hartwick College has built historical buildings from mud and straw at the Pine Lake terminal area.

This really is a wonderful and hidden gem in this area. It's a no-frills state park with several trail systems. The hikes aren't that bad when it comes to terrain and you get the chance to see many different types of wildlife. The best part of this park is it's really one to visit during any season. There are places to picnic and rest along the way, if needed. There are also a few low spots that can be extremely wet after rain and for more than a day or so. If you are in our area and looking for a good place to walk or hike, this is one you should visit!

We are so happy to have this State Park nearby - two separate acreages...First, the bottom (on Rte 28, north of I-88, exit 17) is where the Riddell farmstead was - plenty of trails to bird-watch, cross country ski and the Schenevus Creek is stocked! Second, the top (just south of exit 17 on Hemlock Road) is more hilly and has a myriad of trails (former logging roads from 3 separate eras) with plenty of open trails to explore, including waterfalls and a connector trail to Mud Lake which is adjacent to trails connecting to Hartwick College's Pine Lake Environmental Campus.

I have been to it many times. There are great trails in gorgeous woods. Part of the park is right along the Susquehanna River (at least thats what I think it is). There are occasional picnic tables. Its just a great place to hike and enjoy nature. And, its free!!!!! If you don't like portapotties, make sure you use a nearby bathroom before you get there, though.
