The walls and pillars of the chapel, built in the century. XVII, are lined...

A chapel decorated with thousands of human bones. A must see. Macabre but with a great artistic sense. Unreal.

Neat to see all the bones that make the chapel, but it's just the one room. In Evora this is a 4 star, however, in other cities where there are more attractions this would be a 3.

Amazing.Everybody should visit this monument.Tão hundred monks squelets."We bones that are here, for your bones we wait"

Actually, scary is not right... it is just quite delightful and an experience you really don't want to miss. It is amazing how a chapel built out of human bones can be so not scary. Not to be forgotten and very revealing. Really, if you'll pass near by, go visit!

Although the church was under renovation, the idea to create such thing as that chapel and the impact of seeing so many bones is pretty interesting. The idea of questioning the human condition and see everyone as equal is provocative and inspiring -but also morbid and bizarre!!!

The whole church was undergoing renovation so everything was opened, cold, windy, dirty and half-closed. However, when you see this many bones, it can't leave you indifferent. I've already seen Kostnice v Sedlci so I wasn't too impressed with this.

This is a singular chapel with bone walls. Interesting place for a quick visit, next to the city center.

Maybe the whole story is a marketing fabrication but I was incredibly impressed with this chapel made of almost entirely of excavated bones. Supposedly it was a tribute to humankind and the fact that underneath we are all the same and equal.

The Bones Chapel deserves the experience of a visit. The walls are all covered with bones – the reason is because the field of an old cemetery was needed for enlarging a monastery. All bones were taken from the cemetery and were put on the chapel’s walls, using those sometimes in an artistic way. People’s reaction varies a lot: some laugh; some feel weird; some become very serious; some leave the place after entering it… In any of those situations this experience obliges us to think about our own death.

How is this not the #1 attraction in Evora? It's a chapel. Made of bones. Lots and lots of bones. You will shiver and ponder. Note: one particularly creepy facet of this experience is the hours. They can close at odd times. Check ahead. But don't miss this one.

Disappointing. Évora has much more to see than this, thank god. Unless you are particularly impressed with death and human remains, the atmosphere of the place, mainly due to a poor choice of lighting and visiting path disposal, is nowhere macabre, as you probably might expect. Worth a visit while visiting Évora, but definitely do not go there just to see this place.

We visited with our two boys (9 and 11) and were a little worried as to how they would react. Both found it interesting and no nightmares later so I consider it a success. Make sure to go earlier in the day it later in the afternoon since they are closed for ~2 hours midday.

The main Evora´s attraction. Do not miss.Unfortunately the two dangled mummies were being restored when we went there.

The assembly of thousands upon thousands of skeletons into an impressive chapel is well worth visiting !

Controversial impression, but the place is one of a kind, so if you are in the area, definitely pay a visit.Highly recommended.
