This is the perfect place for a late afternoon walk. The boardwalk allows access to a number of habitats, and we saw many varieties of bird, allegators, and flora. Benches were provided for rest stops and the walk has easy handicapped access. Take binoculars for better viewing.

Excellent spot to get away from the traffic and crowds. Took a short walk on the board walk and saw many types of birds, and plants and of course some alligators. A fun, short escape from the busy city!!!!

Florida's urban areas are so developed that, if this is where you visit in the state, you do not even get a glimpse of the original, unspoiled topography of the place. This will give it to you. We were really taken aback by how different life could be only a relatively few yards off of a parkway lined with shopping centers and gated golf course communities. Good for Lee County for preserving this area for wildlife - and for us to get a glimpse of their habitat. It is a quiet, carefully constructed preserve that gently teaches those who listen just how much biodiversity is available. We left there after two hours with a new appreciation for the need to protect the habitat of the creatures threatened by overdevelopment. This is a do-not-miss place on your trip to Florida. A place of peace and quiet and reflection. It will change you if you let it.

Went on a very hot day and this was a much cooler comfortable walk than other places. Volunteers lead tours at 9:30 and 1:30 but group size is limited, so get there a bit earlier. You can walk on your own anytime from dawn until dusk. Lots to see if you are patient. They will lend you binoculars to use for free. Parking is just $1 an hour. Postcards inside the interpretive building to purchase. They are from submitted photos and are very good. Go! It is well worth it!

This is a well kept nature preserve that you can walk through via a boardwalk. The gators, birds, turtles and snakes can be difficult to find if those around you are not quiet and you don't stop to constantly scan your surroundings. It is definitely a treasure for those old enough to appreciate nature and the patience to stop, look and listen.

First of all, it's cheap. Pay for parking and leave a donation. Stopped by after of the Twins game since it's very close to Hammond Stadium. Nice elevated Boardwalk the whole way. Saw 2 baby gators and one huge one. Lots of birds and 2 cottonmouths. It was typical Florida coming from a MN girl. Keep your eyes open and walk slow. I never saw anything on my own. There were very perceptive people in front of us with a good eye that pointed everything out.

What a beautiful place! I really enjoyed this afternoon of strolling through the preserve on the boardwalk. Lots to see from an alligator to cypress knees. Plenty of beautiful birds as well. We saw ibis, red bellied woodpecker, egret, and anhinga. I was impressed by the attention to conservation. The parking meters were solar powered and there was plenty of parking for bicycles. the attraction is free, donations accepted, but there is a small fee for parking.

This is a place not to be missed. They used to give tours only one day a week, but now I believe they give guided tours daily. The insight(s) gained ICW the SW Florida ecosystem were extraordinary, as well as the history of the place (i.e., how the Native Americans lived).

We were looking to take an evening stroll before supper and decided to try this place out. It is located about 10 minutes from where we were staying and promised to be open "until dusk" (although the interpretive centre closed shortly after we got there). The site is a nature preserve right within Fort myers city limits. It is a cypress slough with Boardwalks running through it (a few miles total). The boardwalk winds and meanders in a circle and sets up vantage points and places to sit down throughout. There also appeared to be bicycle facilities, but I don't know anything about them. We walked the board walk quite quickly, pausing to see some of the wild life. I think this place does well with patient and mindful visitors who take time to appreciate stuff. There are tons of plants that we Canadians found exotic and interesting. We saw several birds, an alligator (and her babies), as well as a family of hogs playing in the mud. There are info boards and a visitor booklet identifying almost everything you see. We were disappointed that we didn't get to see an otter, but that is just Mother Nature for you...
